NB been on the offensive recently. In my city. they set up huge store in the heart of town. like over 50k a month rent location. they are really serious about getting back market share from Nike and Adidas. breaking the bank sparing no expense to do it. 100 shoe selection. these guys are betting the whole farm no holds barred.
How have the new shoes worked out for Jenny B?
How do so many people get injured in only 12 weeks?
"In all, about 42 percent of men assigned custom fitted shoes and 41 percent of men in the stability shoe group got injured over the 12-week training period. For women, approximately 37 percent in custom fitted shoes and about 45 percent in stability shoes regardless of their foot type were injured -- a difference that was not statistically significant."
Anyone who has worked in a running store could tell you that the methodology used here is laughable. There is more than just looking at the foot's print... wear patterns on current shoes, watching the person walk, run on a treadmill, looking whether or not their ankles bow when they put pressure on them, etc.
Much more importantly, the people used in this study were wearing heavy boots for extended periods of time on their feet... this population was going to get hurt across the board, consistently, regardless of what shoes they ran in, at a high enough rate to erase any noticeable difference between the two groups.
Yeah this study seems pretty flawed. It could be that the results are as published. However, it could be that the combat boots (which both groups wear half the time) cause the injuries. Or, it simply could be that the level of training that they all experienced as members of an army training group for those 12 weeks was too high on average for them. Regardless, the study sucks.

If we are talking about the running market, NB isn't concerned with Nike, and definitely not Adidas. They are concerned with Asics and Brooks, both are near 30% of the market.
