She was listed as a part of 2010-11 Tar Heel incoming class
link? it sure ain't on their website
University of North Carolina track and field coach Dennis Craddock will welcome 30 newcomers, including 19 men and 11 women, to the Tar Heel program in 2010-11. Fourteen of the newcomers are middle distance and distance runners, including Kendra Schaff, a transfer from the University of Washington who was the 2008 and 2009 Pac-10 Cross Country Athlete of the Year and finished second at the 2009 NCAA Championship.
Schaff, a native of Craven, Saskatchewan, led the Huskies to the NCAA cross country championship in 2008 and a third-place finish at the 2009 meet. In December 2009, she won the Canadian National Cross Country Championship, competing for the first time in the senior division.
She's tubby now.
Why would she do this? Go from a team with a shot at winning nationals to a team that is BAD! Maybe the NCAA should investigate the cross country team in addition to the football team at that sketchy program they are running over there in North Carolina. There are a lot of transfers coming in...
Metcalf claimed the rumors weren't true and she wasn't going to leave...
"Schaaf"
Who knows what the issues were at Washington. Sometimes a change in venue is needed to keep one's sanity and health.
The question is why would Coach Watson bring in an athlete that has the health issues that Schaaf has? "Win at all costs" is Watson's motto I guess. Wouldn't want to think at all about the young women's health as long as she can get the program turned around. This is such a terrible example that is being set for the rest of the UNC team.

He is Canadian himself afterall. Maybe he thinks that she can run well for his program while dealing with other issues - better for her to be in a less high profile program where NOT winning is seen as failure (team, not personal). It's not like NC is a bad school either! IF she has an ED, then changing scenery may well be a good thing, if it helps at all. For all anyone knows this could be the beginning of the end for her, or a new start with less team pressure. Placing at NCAA's certainly makes her worth the chance, it's not like she is the first person to be doing this kind of thing (changing schools).
Don't fool yourself. He is not brining her in to help her, he is bringing her in with the hopes of helping himself with no thought towards her issues. If he really wanted to help he would have told her to get some help and not concern herself with running right now. Her obsessive personality with his obsessive personality (he did have 11 stress fractures and 4 broken sacrums!!) are a terrible mix.
If she wanted to run for a canadian Cleary of WV is where she should have went.
Sean would not take her right now.

Uh maybe because UNC is one of the top academic institutes in the USA with a degree much more prestigious than one from U of Washington.
Nobody should be taking her right now and the schools that did turn her down obviously did their homework. UNC either didn't do that same homework or chose to ingnore all the warning signs.

That's absolutely ridiculous!
They all would have taken Caitlin Chock and Amber Trotter out of HS. Those two put together the most compelling performances of the last decade at 5K, Chock at the World JR champs and Trotter at Footlocker. We all know the names of many other girls who ran outstanding times at unhealthy weights until it all caught up to them.
Of more recent runners who have been the subject of serious scrutiny several actually redshirted as freshman and I really hope that the coaches, families and runners are working together to run at more healthy weights.
Sisson is cut from a completely different mold and looks to be running at a quite healthy weight as does Jordan Hasay.
UW is a really good school...?
If Kendra is looking for a good solid undergraduate education, either UNC or Oregon would have been excellent choices. She has been stuck at Washington, which is really a post-grad research school...horrible for undergrad education with huge class sizes and little emphasis on bachelor degree programs. UNC and Oregon are much more geared toward students looking for an undergrad degree.
