I like how the article says he's 23.

Ummm...they are inferring "years old". They don't mean that Jager is literally the integer 23.
He was born in 1989.
I think the previous poster was referring to how it is funny they got the age wrong.
But, ummmmm, nice.

Correct. That would be Michael Jordan.
I think it's pretty sad how Jager just got signed to the Project 30, which included things like this championship, and then he doesn't run the race. Oh, well. Maybe he figured ESPN would just flip to a baseball game instead, so he decided a race other than the USA Championships would be more important.
Maybe if Evan Jager streaked at a baseball game it'd get on TV. Yeah, that's the ticket to being televised as a runner.
Important question....
How does an Alter-G (anti-gravity) trained athlete doped on Nike's Viagra get a stress fracture?
Part B... Was leaving college for "the pros" a good idea for this kid?
Part C... Would a hair cut help?
Guy sounds like a bit of a quitter in that article. Hopefully he can pull a Ritz and figure it out.
If Jager was born in 1989 and is 23 years old, man, that guy is growing up fast!
Jagr given everything and then also receiving Project 30 grant - more of the rich getting richer in this sport! OTS, Schumacher, and Salazar SHOULD have every Olympian. Aside from Lomong, Manzano, and Lagat, who else can be in that Olympian pool by 2012 in distance?
Evan Jager is a class individual who not only made the US World Championships team in the 5000 last year, but has run 7:41, 3:54, and 13:22---all before he turned 21 years old! He is one of the USA's bright hopes for the next several years. He is incredibly talented and a hard worker.
He will rebound from ths.
Maybe some of the people who write these posts should actually go out and train hard. Then they actually might know what it means to qualify for the USA Track Championships.

100% Accurate.
And maybe this site should have the class to delete such tripe.
Just so everyone understands. Jerry's group and their training is not at all related to any of the things that Salazar's group does. Think of Jerry's group as "Badger West"...it literally is full of Ex-Badgers coached by an Ex-Badger. Evan is in Jerry's group and not Salazar's.
Jager's a great runner. Hope he recovers for the next 3 championship years.
I don't think anyone in this thread is actually bad mouthing him. I simply think we all would like to see him racing right now.

Maybe it has to do with the fact that he ran about 20 miles a week in high school, and has only a year of collegiate training under his belt on top of that and now he's thrust in with people like Solinskey who are warriors.
this is why you don't drop out of college to run semi-pro

Why? Because of stress fractures?

Yeah dude. That's why you hardly ever hear of collegiate athletes with injuries. Jager's injury is 100% due to the fact that he is no longer an amateur in the NCAA.

The original poster was referring to having a college degree in case the running thing doesn't work out. Chronic foot problems are not good.
Jager, to his credit, has taken some courses at Portland State. But I'm pretty sure he's not heading into his senior year, or anything close to that, credit wise.
