So did running around in underwear contribute to his injury? And is Michigan going to charge $$$ for XC meets now that all they have left is that hot hunky stud Brannen?
Webb is an idiot leaving. How is he going to handle training for the European circuit when he obviously couldn't handle the mileage in college. I also guess this means free xc meets at UM. They should have gave him a cut of the money they made off him last year. I was at that meet. Everyone was there to watch Webb. Maybe if they were nicer to him he would have stayed. Yeah right!!!
I dont blame Webb for going pro. Take the money and go to school later. But he just isnt that good to do this. He could learn more from Broe and Sullivan than from his high school coach. There is a reason the guy is a high school coach.
A high school coach who trained him to a 3:53 mile...
A simple matter of having the maturity and patience to deal with a setback. Webb needs to mentally catch up to his ability, and I think being with his peers at UM would have been the best way to do it. Why the hell was Razco in it anyway? It seems pretty clear that the problem was the injury. How the hell can you coach an injured runner when you're 1000 miles away? That's a difficult balancing act, and you need to be there to do it.
How can anyone resist signing a $250,000 deal especially when you are not running so well. If someone offered you such a deal even though you were unable to duplicate your performance from last year, who wouldn't sign? Ideally, it would have been nicer to sign right after having a breakthrough season so people don't just think your a undeserving little prick.
Also, consider how much Razcko stands to make out of whatever deal Webb gets? That is why he stayed involved and why he wouldn't let Warhurst run the show and why Razcko probably planted the "go pro" seed in webb's mind... the typical cut for a coach is 10%... so taking the admittedly bogus figures that have been thrown around, that's $25K per year minimum that Razcko can add to his earnings... and if Webb actually runs well and earns money at meets it could be a lot more money than that even...
Razcko better hope he knows what he is doing or he could end up being seen as the guy that ruined AMerica's next great miler...
"admittedly bogus".....is damn right. There is no way Raszcko is going to make 25g's because webb isn't really worth that much. He was being courted at low 100's LAST YEAR. Why, someone explain to me, why the heck would anyone offer him MORE after a year like this one???? Come on people, no way, no 250g's.
Very simple ..when Mo Greene left Nike ..and he did by the way, about 250-300K a year was freed up, my understanding is that this is pretty accurate..Webb got the Mo Greene Mo money
If Webb never goes to college, than he makes more money and doesn't look like a big jerk for leaving college after a year. I know he is a real nice guy, but if I had just read the article about him in the washington post, I would think he was a big dick head. And thats what most people probably think. Webb is a nice guy, he is a normal 19 year old kid. Before the 1500 at Nationals last year he was making out with his girl friend on a pole vault mate in the hall way under the stadium. He is gonna do what normal kids do, and if I wasn't running faster than I did in High school I'd be pissed off too. And him and his old coach(aka the devil), are very close, so I could see why he would want to run for him agian. Now about his old coach, who made the comment that Krumacker was to slow to run the 1500 and should move up to the 5000. These comments were made last year before Krum, ran fast as crap. He also said that coachs in America don't understand running and that they train to many miles not enough speed work, and don't lift weights enough. He makes it sound like he made Alan webb, well before he got there Alan had ran 4:06 as a sophmore. I think I could have made alan a sub 4 min miler. So as for webb going pro, I say go for it, but as for going back to his old coach, I don't think thats the best idea.

Stop acting like you know what you're talking about. Alan Webb is not getting Mo Greene money or anything close to it. Mo Greene is the fastest man in the world and the olympic gold medallist. Alan Webb has some upside potential but is no where near Mo Greene in terms of marketability. He'll get in the low 100,000s for a few years and have to prove himself.
It's all about selling shoes. Webb gets more press in the U.S. than Greene. He is an interesting story, and people will continue to follow him, see what shoes he is wearing, etc.
It is not about how fast you run, its about marketability and what your name means (and sometimes your face). Why do you think Jennings would get more than Riley (people like hearing about Jennings)? Why do you think Tollefson would get more than Yoder (Tollefson is a super hottie)? Its not always about Olympic medals and being the fastest in the world, esp. when its a U.S. based company whose main focus is the U.S. market.
How many threads show up on this board about Mo Greene?
Not too many sprinters after college (and a pair of trainers last a loonnnggg time). There's a lot of people who run/jog after college. They buy several pairs a year. Hmmm...
speaking of money where is the 250K?
"It is not about how fast you run, its about marketability and what your name means (and sometimes your face)."
Absolutely right.
Anna Kournikova.

Screw em Alan. Follow your heart. College running
is an out-dated over-rated unachieving ego driven phenom.
Done great job delivering runners to the next level
over the last 20 years hasn't it, eh. How did El G, Berkele,
Geb and dozens and dozens of other make it??
Give me a break about getting the education song and dance.
Education is for ever. Most 18-19-20 should be anywhere
BUT college.
Please clarify.....
"Most 18-19-20 should be anywhere BUT college."
Don't you mean "American College"?
What's weird about that story is that it never mentions the Nike money.

Are you f*** kidding me. Webb gets way less press than Mo Greene. Way, way, way less. Mo Greene is constantly in the press because of his performances. Webb's press declines every day.
There are no posts on this board about Mo Greene because this board is about distance running and dominated by male distance runners. Go out on the street and ask 10 people if they know who Mo Greene is. Then go out and ask 10 people if they know who Alan Webb is. I bet 0 know Alan by name, and at least 5 or 6 no who Maurice Greene is.
