Can anyone share their experience with Karhu running shoes ? I know they are made in Finland, I saw the brand on Holabird's website and ordered a pair.

Looks like you'll have to tell us how you like them. I've been wondering myself.
The company is from Finland but the shoes are made in China like (nearly) all other running shoes. I ordered a pair of the most minimal ones (forget the model) but returned them because they just felt super thick. I think they'd be good for a big guy who is a heel striker though.
Lasse Viren wears them

Did he? I've only seen him in adidas or Asics. Vataanien wore Karhus I think.
Actually, the only world class runner I recall who wore Karhu was the winner of the 1971 Boston Marathon, a Colombian named Alvaro Mejia. He had on a Karhu racing flat in the race if memory serves me right.
No longer made in Finland (actually, they were "made in EU"), made in China now.

And when was the last time you saw him out for a run?

When he could still break 8 minutes for a mile.
I ran today in my new Karhu shoes, I like them , different feel them my Adidas but I like them.
I got some cheap ($50 per pair). Actually a pretty light, neutral shoe, I think they are a nice shoe. I won a 10K in them.
I have only run in the old M2 model, a low profile neutral cushioned shoe, which was made in the EU. Really nice quality (design, craftsmanship, materials), one of the best running shoes I have ever had in 2+ decades of running. Not sure how much has changed with the updating of the shoe models and moving the manufacturing to Asia.
Viren used Adidas in the early years and then later he ran with Onitsuka Tiger (Asics)
Vaatainen used shoes of Adidas

About 20 years more recently. The point being: his sponsorship has probably changed in the past few decades. A Finnish national hero would probably be worth plenty to Karhu for marketing purposes in 2010, not so much for Asics or Adidas.
Well, neither of us really know what he wears or how often he runs. The comment about Viren running in Karhus probably mant that he raced in them in his prime. At least that's what I took it to mean and my response was that I never saw him racing in anything other than adidas or Asics and I was asking that poster if he knew otherwise. But for all we know he's got a closet full of Vibram Five Fingers now.

How do you know what somebody else "probably" meant? Arrogant much?
Viren's probably not sponsored by either adidas or asics now.

Whiskey Tango Foxtrot: How do you know what somebody else "probably" meant?
Gee, if nobody can ever be reasonably certain of interpreting any other post, the ongoing popularity of discussions here suddenly seems a much bigger mystery!

Gee, how about most of us take things at face value, for what they obviously say and don't try to infer anything and ask instead of assume?
