Looks like Adam Goucher is your new American Record holder with 13:11.25!!
I'm pretty sure Goucher ran 13:10.0.

South African; American; South African again.

He is still an American as far I know. Living is South Africa. He would hardly be the first American to live in another country.
Still, I would put an asterisk by his name. He seems to be an American for convenience only during a certain time in his life. The reason he became American was Apartheid. Still, that doesn't seem a good enough reason to play games with citizenship.
He was born and grew up in South Africa went to college in USA and then returned to South Africa many years later..
You can have citizenship in two countries - As far as I know he retained his US and South African citizenship..so could live in either country..
It doesn't really matter if Lagat or Solinsky holds the American record at the moment since in 10-25 years most of the distance events in the US will be dominated by African American athletes, as have all sports where access to proper training and college and professional opportunities become more generally available. Just take a good look at the high school listings. And just as an aside, the high school "Dream Mile" at the Golden League meet in New York on june 12th will probably be won by the two Jamaican athletes. So enjoy the "Great White Hope" discussions while you still can.
Really, AIDS? It that your sad pathetic hope? That AIDS will decimate the African American population and so European Americans will have some hope of competing in track, basketball, football ect.? Well, at least you're honest about it, which is more than I can say for most people on this website.
Recent studies show pretty conclusively that athletic achievement is directly related to socio-economic factors and much less so to genetic factors, when comparing groups of individuals. Which is one reason why Eastern European and Russian athletes remain competitive. By the way, I'm not African American, just a runner whose a little tired of all these race based delusions, and bigotry. It makes me physically when I hear this trash...Here's another prediction for you, in 50 years the majority of Americans won't be white and most won't care about the distinctions you're making now, and then maybe we can actually embrace all our young athletes regardless of their ethnic background...as people and as Americans.

Actually, the only American to wear a Kenya singlet.

Just so you know, Solinsky was not under Ritz' mark. 12:56.12 vs 12:56.66
AIDS with a side of sickle cell
That was a joke before anyone gets their panties in a twist.
Great run by Lagat and Solinsky! I know it's only one race and Lagat was representing Kenya for a number of years, but it's so refreshing to look at the 5k results and to see it split between 3 different countries: Ethiopia, Kenya, which are both usually up there, and the United States!
This wasn't a dinky B race either! Solinsky down to 12:56! Not that I thought his 10k was a fluke, but nice to see him put down an awesome 5k time too!
Figured Lagat would have a 12:54 in him. I think he could go to 12:51's, but I didn't see the race.
What everyone is missing is that Lagat and Solinsky are training for 5k specifically and solinsky didnt beat Ritz's time and Lagat did by about 2 seconds. If Ritz's trains for the 5k... then what?
Why not go there? Its the truth. He wasn't born here, his parents were not born here either. Its the same deal with Kipketer.
