Bolt's start was horrible. His trail leg out of the blocks dragged on the ground before coming through. He was clearly upset after the race.
However, this time will make for an interesting season in the sprint world.
Bolt 9.86 +0.1w = 9.86
Gay 9.88 -0.4w = 9.85
ladies and gentlemen.. this is gonna be an interesting match when the finally meet up, and IF a big IF Gay stays healthy.
the wind reading in Manchester were changing all the time he could have had a tailwind. Bolt made up 0.08 seconds from 100m to 150m. Bolt had a terrible start and after the race he said he was not in very good shape. Bolt>Gay
The track in Daegu is reportedly slow, a report that was being aired prior to Bolt's race (and prior to Jeter's 11.00 to 11.05 victory over VCB).
Don't forget Powell. 9.81 legal and 9.7x wind times. Gonna make things even MORE interesting if he can stay healthy.
I've noticed that Bolt often drags his trail leg. Tough for him to avoid being that low to the ground with long legs. Doesn't seem to hold him back that much...
Bolt's trail leg always hits the ground. It's how he starts. Powell does that too. It makes for a faster leg recovery and a faster start.
i think that Bolt is on some juice for real i bet he gets caught like everyone else

Spearmon ran his 19.65 breakthrough PR there against no competition, must not be too slow.
Bolt looked downright horrible. I've never seen him try in a 100 that hard and he still couldn't find his normal top-end speed. We may not see another 9.58 from him this year, he seems to have lost that explosive start he found in Berlin that put him ahead of the field just a few steps into the race.
If Powell or Gay doesn't beat him at least once this year, I'll be very surprised. This will be the motivation Bolt needs to pull a 9.4/18.9 out for the WC.
Are you serious...? One bad race and he won't run good the entire year...wow

1st 100m of the season, 9.86 and it can be considered a bad race. This shows how much the 100m has moved on in the last two years. Incredible!

Seriously. Here is the all-time performers list:
1. Bolt - 9.58
2. Gay - 9.69
3. Powell - 9.72
4. Greene - 9.79
5. Bailey - 9.84
5. Surin - 9.84
7. Burrell - 9.85
7. Gatlin - 9.85
7. Fasuba - 9.85
10. Lewis - 9.86
10. Fredericks - 9.86
10. Boldon - 9.86
10. Obikwelu - 9.86
Bolt just matched the liftetime pr's of Carl Lewis, Frankie Fredericks, Ato Boldon. Hell, Linford Christie doesn't even make this list.
And Bolt won by so much I'll go out on a limb and say that if he had Bailey and Surin running 9.84 right beside him he'd run at least 9.84 too.
So basically this low key season opener that we're all disappointed by is faster than anyone has ever run except for 4 dudes.

He opened up much better the last couple of years. I didn't say he wouldn't run good, but he's been saying all year that he wasn't even focusing on world records this year.
The 100m world record will probably not be beaten by anyone this year, and to be honest, I have a strange feeling Powell is going to be the only guy to go 9.6 this year.
The stands looked pretty empty from the little bit of them I saw during the video. Are they expecting good crowds for 2011 worlds or is that gonna be a problem?

18.9?? Think about that for a second. Bolt has been within half a second of that mark on only two occasions. And 19.19 is huge to begin with.
Of course it was an amazing run.
However, Bolt did look like he was gripping.
Hmmm...
in addition to wally's 19.65, i believe it is site of next champs in '11
i'd be very surprised if those koreans put in a "slow" track for their games
last time they held a big champs, back in '88, the times were off the scale !!!
It's worth bearing in mind here, that guys like Frater and Padgett both ran sub-10 (albeit fractionallty windy) last week, finishing within about a tenth of Powell. Bolt absolutely destroyed them both yesterday. Clearly the track, or the conditions, weren't that fast - you only need to look at every other sprint event to see that.
9.86 at this stage, with that start and on that track is phenomenal. End of story
