People with foot fetishes. Me!
Lazy, untalented people who think there's a secret to running
The kind of person with enough of an open mind to try something before they criticize it.

Well that's clearly untrue.
People who care about not injuring themeselves, that's who.
poor Africans
If you're not injured in conventional running shoes then why make the switch? The whole barefoot fad is as much about being a nonconformist and anti-big business as it is about running injury free. For some reason these people think the running shoe companies have been taking advantage of them and I'm not sure why. Thousands of us have used the traditional models for years with no problems. Once you find a shoe you like and can run with injury free then stick with it. The risk is not worth the reward.

What type of person is attracted to barefoot running/vibram five fingers?
???
Apparently a whole lot of people. It seems like half of my running buddies are into barefoot/vibrams now. Extra-minimalist running has been on the fringe for a while but why did it suddenly become mainstream?
I asked my friends each individually that question and they seem to think they happened upon it independently.
To answer the OP, the only people I have seen in vibrams are the sort of dudes that comprise 75% of the people at the gym--bulky guys with pretty big guts who like to exercise but can't really figure out the diet thing. That's not to hate on them, that's just how I see it.
Except I saw this one really cute package running in them on Reservoir Rd right off the trail in DC. I saw you, you saw me--Hit me up girl??
BTW, the whole barefoot thing has extended to WALKING DOWN THE SIDEWALK (at least in my city). Anyone else notice this>?
the only people I've ever seen running in them are 30-50 year old metrosexuals.

...Right, I'm sure that lovely young lady is going to jump at the chance to get with someone who refers to her as a "package"...
To Vibram Five fingers? Slow people.
They think they are really cool because they are wearing this thing that makes them look really cool.
but they're not.
i saw a dude running in vibrams yesterday while i was out running. it was great. i love seeing people going back to basics. i agree with the person who said its partially as anti-big business, but i think the reason people do it cuz of anti-big business is more because the industry has tricked us into wearing crap cages on our feet. so the only reason its anti shoe industry is cuz those big shoe companies don't know what the hell they are doing anymore. they pay attention to the ka-ching of dollar signs rather than to anatomy, science, nature, and common sense.
so to answer the question fully, i'd say its the smart type of person, who is open to truth hidden behind the layers of propaganda.

If they were truly against the propaganda, they would run in aqua socks like "the fringe" has been doing for years, not the running shoe equivalent of JNCOs.
"Thousands of us have used the traditional models for years with no problems"
Actually the modern running shoe was invented in the late 1960s and American distance running has been on the skids almost ever since. Running barefoot is so much more natural and has been done by people for much much longer than the 40 or so years since Bowerman screwed it all up.
LOL @ Mike Hunt and @ JNCOs reference!! Not bad for a Monday
"Bet they couldn't break 20 in a 5k."
I run barefoot and I have run 15:23 and looking to go a hell of a lot faster next year after a whole year of barefoot running and running the fivefingers. I agree with Lazzo, good post!
