Wejo's quote "Ryan's strategy is great for running a good time, but it's almost never going to win you the race."
I like Weldon but I have to differ from him on this quote in his write-up on Boston.
The plan and simple fact is that the fastest time wins the race and history and science has shown us that the most effective way to run a fast time in a distance race is through even to slightly negative splits.
Every world record between the mile and marathon has been done on even to slightly negative splits. That should tell us something.
I applaud Ryan Hall for having the guts to use a strategy to help him run the fastest time he felt he was capable of on that day. While Meb's certainy showed guts by following the surges and gutting it out at the end, he may have been better served running a more even pace and staying with Hall.
