Some live stream show...I finally got in with two minutes left
Hey, I called this in that other thread a couple of days ago. What do I win?
So what now, guess the mile Deena will bonk and if Meb breaks the top 10?
NYC is the best fall marathon in America, and the top runners know it...

If Camden or Tuscaloosa had a marathon and threw that much appearance money around, they could be the "best fall marathon."
Pull your nose out of Toby Tansers short lining.
Not Necessarily News
So sorry, Chap. Those backwater burgs just don't attract much beyond flies and meth labs.

You didn't miss much. It was pretty bad. Since it's never been done before I figured I'd watch.
The audio was screwed up for most of the show.
Then they just announced some random people are running the race and then that Meb and Deena are running.
All people want is a link to the lottery results. There is ZERO reason to watch this show I see now. I'm not sure what I expected. 40,000 balls being drawn out of a hamper?

And NYRR paid for right of first refusal on getting runners for fall marathons with that cherry 'donation' to Mammoth TC. It's no coincidence, and indicative of little else, that top Americans from groups that received NYRR and BAA funds started showing up at NYCM and Boston. Hall only went to London because they were willing to offer him more, individually, than Boston would. Boston and NYCM aren't willing to pay for any record holders except those on the downside of their careers who can't get more from anyone else. Chicago and London don't really go for any has-beens. And yes, despite his NYCM win, Meb is still long in the tooth as a marathoner and everyone knows that he just isn't going to be keeping up with the types of fields that London and Chicago bring in.
Meb in the top 5 again, and Kastor drops at mile 12.
Martin Lel ran in NYC when he was pretty clearly the best marathoner in the world and that was not so long ago.
This does seem strange. From the outside looking in it seems as though Meb and Deena are hedging their bets. Bad performances at Boston and London would decrease their marketability. Have they resigned themselves to the fact that their training is not going well?
I really wish they would get back to the track. Kinda weird timing though, Meb should be 100% focused on Boston and not making other plans. I hope this doesn't mean he isnt in great shape and wants to tie up a pay day now rather than bomb in Boston and hurt his fall marathon value.
This shows this is a BUSINESS. This is Meb's and Deena's job and they have to protect their financial interests. By locking up for NYC now, Meb gets more money than if he bombs in Boston. NYC hedges its best but gets some publicity.
The mistake seems to be what if it isn't in Meb's best interest to run NYC. Say he does horribly in Boston and decides "hey I need a break from the marathon." Likely he won't know that until after Boston.
However, then he could just pull out of NYC. He no doubt gets some bonus for today's announcement and some bonus when he actually shows up to run, so today's announcement doesn't mean he has to run NYC, it just really means he can't run another fall marathon instead.
To make this announcement now, it tells me Meb is not focused on Boston. When it starts to hurt, he'll be thinking about NYC. Boston will be a disaster...

I wish you irrational dopes would STFU about those who have had clear success in the marathon ever messing around with track racing again in this day and age.
Has Lel ever been a record holder or a US citizen? Were Meb or Kastor ever considered "pretty clearly the best marathoner in the world" or is either now?

yup
The Chicago and NYC announcements, both involving Mammoth Track Club people, occurred on consecutive days. The pressure seems to be on to make earlier commitments than in past years.

You are delusional at best on that point. Chicago is the American fall marathon with the most appeal.
