I understand Baylor has played this zone all year, but against a very good three point shooting team with minimal athleticism why play zone?
The only reason duke is in this game is because of the three. They are shooting about 50% for the game at this point and almost have double digit threes.
No one on Duke should intimidate Baylor one on one. Man up and they would have won by 10.

You're right but installing an EFFECTIVE man to man against Duke at this point of the tournament would have been disastrous. Duke has seen man all year and at best Baylor would have been an average man defense without adequate practice time. They have to play what they know. And they're paying for being a limited defensive team. It's over.... Baylor's losing their cool
you cant be serious. Everyone know how to play man to man defense. Simply telling dunn and tweety to never ever leave smith and scheyer's side on defense would have won the game for duke.

Guarantee WVU plays man to man against Duke the majority of the game and it wont be close.
But they NEVER play it. They're playing zone just like Syracuse ALWAYS plays zone. It's all they play. Man to man defense is not simply "stay with your man" and never leave smith and scheyer. It doesn't work that way. Becoming familiar with switching and helping and, in turn, rotating and defending the weakside of the court in a man to man is much more complex than you think.
