Anyone? I've heard multiple statistics that favor both sides. Can we please set the record straight?

Realclearpolitics- average of 7 major polls for this past week shows 40% for, 49% against.
Depends on what you are asking....I've seen reputable polls with between 47% and 58% against this current bill, depending on the current week...(as you can see from the above link, it appears to be as widespread as 42% [AP] to 63% [CNN] against)
But I've also seen at least one poll with as high as 77% of Americans in favor of some form of healthcare related reform.

Thats a separate issue, in this case. Most people feel that we should do something to remedy the health care system, but a majority of the polled public disagrees with the plan that was passed.

^ This is the kind of thing I was asking for. Lot's of pundits on both sides say Americans are for and against healthcare reform (mostly for), but I'm really taking about the current bill. Looking at my Facebook news feed, the majority of the statuses I've seen have been despair for the country, with some excitement for. Although I know that's anecdotal.
It makes me lol thinking about how many ignorant debates are going to occur between people who have no idea what they're talking about on both sides.
That's because half the idiot class of the American electorate has no idea what it takes to make it this far in Congress when you are taking on the entire financial industry lobby (that includes insurers). You have to pass what you can get and fix it later. Otherwise, it takes another generational opportunity to get this far again. Remember, presidents have been trying to do this since FDR and corporate lobbyist and the industry and the Republican party have killed it every time. And they almost did this time too.At issue is the type of society we want. One where good health is a right, or only a privilege for purchase. Keep in mind middle-class Letsrunners, you are not part of the plutonomy, meaning, your time is limited and your children will not live better than you. You are not part of the 1%. So grateful for, and hope, that more positive changes come and that our country stops worshipping profit, the dollar, celebrity, and all the other shi* that is destroying this once great nation.

Worshiping the dollar is what got the US to or near the top in terms of innovation and quality of life.
Sorry, KKK member, you lost. Now Arabs, blacks, Jews, Mexicans, and Asians will have health insurance.

As long as all those groups pull their weight and pay for their OWN coverage, no problem. If this is going to lower the cost of health care, everyone should be able to afford these great new lower premiums. NO ONE should be asking for any handouts now. This should be great for all of us who have been subsiding some of these groups of individuals for years. No excuses now, pay up or go to jail!
hard to make money when you're blatant racial profiling prevents me from getting a job!

Asians make more than all other racial groups. And yes, we're sick of pulling the weight for everyone else.
It should also be noted that some polls show the majority favors many of the individual elements the bill that just passed. Yet, as previously stated, there seems to be strong opposition for the bill as a whole. To me, this says that most people don't know what is in the bill, don't understand how congress works, or have bought the propaganda of the right-wing opposition.
For example, I'm sure that there are people who would say they are in favor of many of the measures in the bill, but the Dems shouldn't force the bill through using parliamentary procedures and back-room deals. Unfortunately, this is often how congress works; if they pass it within the rules, then opposing the process seems rather silly. Others might be concerned about the possibility that the bill increases costs and the national debt. Obviously, the Dems are claiming it will lower costs while the GOP says it will raise them. So it depends on who you believe right now, but more importantly it won't be known for a while what the real consequences are.
As someone generally in favor of reform, I'd like to believe that more people would support this bill if there was more information and rationality in our politics and our news media. I don't know a lot about this current bill but I agree with the person who said that you have to pass what you can and modify it later since an opportunity like this comes around only once in a great while. Let's hope it does what the President says and really changes the way health care in our country operates.
On some sort of healthcare reform, it is probably 95% for, 5% against.
On this particular bill, it is about 37% for, 63% against.
They could have done way better by listening to the other side on this one.
And the biggest problem is that we don't worship the dollar enough, we are trying to carry the unmotivated dead wood in our society, which seems to keep growing daily. Let the dead wood go adrift and focus on helping those who help themselves.

And you come to LetsRun for clarification?
There was a poll (CNN?) that showed a clear majority opposed when asked their opinion of the "Obama Healthcare Bill" while an overwhelming majority polled in favor of almost every major item in the bill. In other words most people polled have very little factual basis for their strongly held opinions. No doubt this is true on both sides of the debate, but it is frightening how easily the opinions of the populace can be manipulated.

Well put. People don't know what they're disagreeing with. I actually talked to someone who said "Every part of this bill is wrong for America" and when i asked them to list the parts of the bill they couldn't name a single thing in it. FOX news has got people thinking they know what they're talking about.
And to the maker of this thread what makes you think for a second that a poll interview a few thousand people is remotely accurate to what the people want. If you can't ask every single person in the country a poll tells you nothing. Especially when FOX justputs polls up on their website. Of course people going to FOX.com are going to be against the healthcare bill, that's why they are there.
The bigger the government, the smaller the citizen. The sooner you learn that, the sooner you get wisdom.

Actually that seems to be exactly what happened. Take a look at the Republican health care proposals from the 1990's (1993?) and compare them to what the Dems just passed. Eerily similar.
"reputable poll" is an oxymoron
I have one. Its the election results from November 2008. Obama ran with healthcare reform as one of his main goals (if not THE main goal) and he blew out McCain. In addition to this, the American people voted in a 60 seat majority for the Dems knowing that they would most likely help Obama pass healthcare reform. This has been coming for a long time. I'm tired of Republican's claiming to be "the voice of the people" just because they are yelling the loudest.
