I'm mainly referring to D-I, but wouldn't mind learning of any athlete who walked on and ended up winning a national title.

What's your definition of walk-on?
I believe Daniel Lincoln walked on at the University of Arkansas. However, I think he had a full academic scholarship, so I don't know if that exactly falls into the same category.
jesse owens was a walk on and had to work to pay for school, as ohio state (and probably most if not all colleges) did not give scholarships to blacks back then.

If you're looking at this picture and thinking that Wright is the attractive one, then you British are some messed up people.
What were her HS PRs?
ncaa titles are not a usa national titles, plus it's only indoors not real t&f. even iaaf indoors is not a major medal. only summer olys & iaaf outdoors are major t&f medals.
And just how many indoor titles might you have won had you deemed them worthy of your pursuit?

You're the first person to mention anything about major medals and the OP said it was a national title (which it is), not a US national title as you wrote, so I'm not sure what or where you're reading.
NCAA Indoors is not a national champs. Only USA Outdoors & Olympic Trials are national champs.
Can you not comprehend the thread title?

NCAA Indoors is a national collegiate championship title.
I remember Harvard winning a 2 mile relay title years ago.
None of those guys had athletic scholarships, as neither would have Meredith Rainey or Darlene Bickford or other Ivy Leaguers who won NCAA titles.
Indoors is not T&F and not a real NC, only outdoors can be counted as an NC.
What part of "NCAA title" are you having trouble grasping?
per milesplit.com, 2:15.96.
It's a national championship
andrew wheating?
Was Wheating a true walk on, with no financial assistance from the school at all? If so, that's amazing.
yep

That is still a pretty fast time, but very impressive that she has come this far.
