I'm betting he can.
I'm betting he can.

You obviously don't know much about the Comrades race.
And no Josh Cox will not win.
What makes you so sure?

Sure I do.
CM is where washed up marathoners go to run.
It has World Class rep, but with master-rated competition.
Again, low hanging fruit.
they have VERY lax drug testing standards....and in a related note, quite often a russian wins the race.
hmmm. odd.

with a recent 2:13 mar I should think he has a shot
how many letsrunners have actually run comrades?
Is he running it?
Or is this one of them letsun post of what if Didka had a team of 18 inch tall players, would da Bears still win?
Better question would be, outside of the Cocks fanboys, will anyone care?
will he scream "just praisin the gift ryan!" for 55 straight miles while ryan hall video tapes him from a van?
He is running it.http://www.twitter.com/joshcoxrun

No, I hear there are a bunch of Africans over there. They are good at running.
It is its own beast.
Bruce Fordyce would have been a low 2:1x marathoner if he focused on it. He chose instead to focus on Comrades in the 80s, winning it a total of 9 times setting up and down course records.
Salazar almost lost it in '94 after being well under course record pace for most of the race. He had run 10 miles in ``50 in training prior to this, so he was def in shape.
Kotov (4th in '80 OG marathon) won it several times up and down when he was %%40. He is a RSA citizen now.
There is no money in it, so the "best" don't bother. Outside of southern Africa, its EXPENSIVE to travel there and run it, so it will always be a regional race at best.
I hope to do it before I turn 50. If you live outside Africa, its something you would do because you want to, and nothing more.
That being said, you have to be a very good, very tough runner to win it. 89km on that course is a bitch. At about 70km Josh Cox will be wondering what he was thinking. This is an "up" year, so a little more merciful.
Even Satan is cheering for Josh Cox! I hope he makes us proud.
i heard Satan has a standing offer to buy Josh's immortal soul for $10k....
wow. he is wearing more makeup than the bride

so People like Thompson Magawana, RIP, who was easily capable of running 2:12-2:14 when running The Rades was never able to win it but it is only master rated competition. You must know some pretty quick master. Maybe you are friends with Kjell Erik Stahl or John Cambell.
If Josh doesn't have to stop to brush his hair, he might have a shot.
