Whats up with him? He's not running indoor nationals.

Interesting how no one is proposing his career is over like with Fernandez. I predict we'll get to see both of them outdoors.

Probably because he doesn't have a history of getting hurt, and has had a relatively consistent career and development, both in HS and college. He appears to be an individual with great coaching, who has very good talent, rather than a meteoric talent who happens to be well coached. The latter is prone to injury, the former prone to being overshadowed by the latter.
Who cares about indoor track! I'm sure his season of competition is long enough. He also lives and trains in Palo Alto.
Did he run indoors at all? I remember seeing a rumor that he had some Achilles issues...
Like the other guy asked, has he raced indoors at all? Redshirting a season doesn't get criticism like blowing seasons of eligibility.
I'm so sick of hearing all of the haters on letsrun. Why does everyone love to hate Fernandez so much on here and talk trash about Dave Smith? I really don't get it. Do you have some insight that we don't? Do you know them personally? Be a man and post your real name on here along with your message. "Fernandez is done" "Fernandez has no talent" "Dave Smith is a terrible coach" etc. etc. You hide behind your fake name and post and then write more nonsense. How about you post your real name, picture, email address and your PR's so we can all see your background and what kind of a runner you are or were. Then we can respond to you directly about your ghost posting and comments. That is if you have the balls to put your real name on here.
Please... take a minute to de-saddle your moral high horse, and then we'll talk. The internet is largely used for just that purpose--to avoid face to face, truly personal encounters. This is what's known as a "Message Board." In internet jargon, the "Message Board" refers to an online entity in which an eclictica of persons can discuss issues usually relating to some specific theme or at least to some umbrella theme. Said 'persons' can usually choose the level of anonymity they wish to maintain.
Wait... so we should require "balls" to post on message boards? Every fan of any athletic squad must reveal their own personal credentials before even beginning to apply empiricist rationality to inform judgments about said squad?
Dude, clearly GF is a Ritz type in that his upside is many standard deviations away from most of our's, but because of that, it also teeters on a fragile faultline. We can attribute his streak of injuries to coach negligence (which I think it is, partially) but I'd wager it's also due to the fact that because German's coach has never had talent like this, he's a little trigger happy. It's not so much negligence or incompetence as it is the case of a good coach being given the opportunity with a rare talent and struggling, as most college coaches would, with finding a way to circumvent German's noted history of injuries (back in high school too lest we forget).
I'm just saying, if you can sit back talk trash and post a bunch of bull shit, stand behind your post with your idenity. I'm not talking about legit dialog or an actual opinion. It's the baseless comments that have no truths or merit whatsoever. It's not just the GF stuff....it's all across the boards on LR.
I never said you needed "balls" to post your opinion, you're not getting my point. There's a difference between posting your opinion and trashing someone and posting slanderous remarks. And if a person has the "opinion" to say someone sucks and they are slow, when clearly they don't suck, then they at least need to give an intellectual argument why that is. Are they better?
GF is obviously injury prone and has had his share of struggles his first couple years in college, there's no arguing that. I don't know the guy or follow him that closely, but why all the hostility towards the dude? What did he do that has people in up in arms?

You see we could do that...however it still wouldn't change the fact that Fernandez is done.
Our pr's have no effecton German Fernandez's career.
Neither do our names or email addresses or pictures.
Does he have a career ending injury? What happened to him?
Any relation to Bo Derrick by chance?
Seriuosly, German is done? I thought he just rolled his ankle at conf champs.

By "done" I mean never running 3:55 again.
Will never finish in the top 10 at NCAAs either.
Obv ur on crack.
I agree, put down the pipe!
Let's wait till his college career is finished before we declare the guy washed up. Better yet, give him this outdoor season to see if he improves.
I sure wouldn't bet against German running a 3:55 again. Runners get injured-it happens. I attended a clinc where Dave Smith presented 5 years ago and his training seemed very reasonable to me. I've seen a lot more coaches have training programs where they do a lot more race pace and goal pace work that Smith had at that clinic. Does a coach that uses a regional cc meet as basically a tempo run sound like somebody that pounds his runners? I think he is an outstanding coach and I wish German and Derrick the best of luck. Hopefully they will continue to throw down some outstanding times.
John Fendel: the man whose asshole is so tight it could turn coal into diamonds.
Lighten up, dude!
Troops are dying in Iraq and Afghanistan so I can call German Fernandez a washed up 'has been' who needs dental work, and call his coach a hillbilly!
I agree with this John Fendel guy.... people on letsrun trash any and everyone that is successful... German F may get hurt a lot, but in between those injuries he has qualified for Cross Country Worlds and won a NCAA national championship in the 1500m. Seems to me that if someone is injury prone and is still able to accomplish what he has in such a short amount of time people would celebrate him instead of bash him. . But back to the point of the post which is it to figure out if certain athletes are healthy... So what happen to Chris Derrick? Maybe he decided to train through indoors to concentrate on outdoors. Another question I have it what happened to Deigo Estrada of NAU? He hasn't run since middle of the Cross Country season. He didn't run at cross country nationals, which I believe cost NAU a national championship, so I wonder if this very talented young runner is ok? I hope all of these young men are healthy because they make our sport better and more exciting to follow. Oh and to the last person that posted a message about "people fighting over in Iraq"... Our soldiers aren't dying and fighting for our freedom so you can say any stupid thing that comes to your mind... don't insult our troops by suggesting such a moronic thing...
