Any recommendations on what I should look for in a pair of flats? I race mostly on the road, and do a weekly track workout. Someone recommended Nike Streaks, but they seem a bit expensive. Apparently, they are a bit more supportive than the avg flat.

Alternatively, should I look at a pair of zoom waffles or something like that for spikes, and just take them out for racing on the roads? Are these too flimsy for road racing?

And do I really need to be wearing flats for track workouts if I use a light trainer like NB 830?

JK's store has the Rat Racer on sale... No, I've got nothing to do with the store. But they're cheap, and seem to be a decent (albeit maybe more sturdy than you need) shoe.

My personal opinion is that the waffles are too flimsy for the road, but I've seen people wear them.

I wear the 830, and have done speed work in them, but I just got the flats for when I hit the track again. I use the 830s for my normal distance runs.

Yes, the Streaks are expensive. But when they get discontinued, by all means pick up a pair once Eastbay/RoadRunner start discounting them. They're very good shoes.

The Rats Racers are good, but it looks (from the picture)like the ones that JK is selling are the 2000s which are a bit heavier than the 2001s and 2002s.

Don't use Zoom Waffles on the road. Just not enough cushioning

You don't NEED flats for track workouts, but frankly for any type of repeat of 800 meters or less, I would recommend them. Trainers, (even light ones) seem to just get in my way when I try to use them for speed.

But there are plenty of other cheap racing flats at Eastbay and Road Runner. Go take a look. You can get something light for not much money
