I was looking at the new Diamond League calendar and have a few questions and observations.
First, the calendar is rearranged quite a bit.
For example in the US, the Pre meet is now the week after nationals.
Quite a few events are very far apart geographically and just day apart. Rome and NY 2 days apart. Eugene and Lausanne 4 days apart. Lausanne and London 2 days.
This happened in the past but the meets weren't presented as all part of one series.
Also it seems the US has lost a meet outdoors and the Tyson meet indoors. Reebok and Adidas are one company now and the Reebok Grand Prix in NY now is the Adidas Meet and the former adidas meet in LA is off the calendar.
So now onto my questions.
1) Berlin is not part of the Diamond League. It still is having a meet and in the past was one of the top meets in the World. What is the significance of it not being in the Diamond League? Probably not much as I assume the meet can still pay out big money and get on TV?
2) Was pPre after USAs a few years ago? Or is this the first time?
3) I see the Continental Cup on the schedule which is the old World Cup. This seems to be the year-end event. Is the World Athletics Final gone forever?
4) Are the Home Depot and Tyson meets gone forever? The US only had 6 Pro track meets to begin with (Reebok indoors, Millrose indoors, Tyson indoors, Pre outdoors, Adidas outdoors, Home Depot outdoors and now it looks like we're down to 4. The "Visa Championship" Series is now 2 meets and USATF indoors and no outdoor meets.
