You'd be better off asking for the past 12 months so that you encompass an entire track season. Not many people run their best mile from August through January.
Haven't raced a single mile in a little over a year and had just turned 50, hit a 5:14. A year before that at 49 I pr'd with a 5:09. Had to get off the track, got a little burned out with the hard stuff. Turned back to focus on the marathon. Good luck. In a few years you may go sub-5 if you keep at it.
I ran a 5:05, but it was at the end of a track workout when I shouldn't have. And yes, I'm aware I suck. I blame the height and weight (6'7", 195), as well as my lack of skillz.
Never ran a mile race. That said, I did a 5 mile race in Oct and mile 1 was 5:43.
It's of course not a good time, however I've been running 13 months and less than two years ago I was nearly 300 pounds. I'm 2 months shy of 36.
I feel I'm destined to run 4:59 or better though.
5:49 indoors recently. Not very fast. Just keep doing a speedwork and a tempo run each week with plenty of rest and making sure you speed it up each week and I'd think you'd hit it.
Its seriously possible to get that much faster at this age? 5:09 at 49 is sick. peace
4:50 but it was the last mile of a road 5k.
19
5:29.
it was a 5K split though.
It's very possible. You may think you're old but you've only been at it 2 years. Few miles on those young legs. I started at 33 and sucked for the first 6 years, then took a whole year off and started back but this time I increased my mileage to 60-70 miles a week. The increase in miles for me made all the difference. Ran my first marathon at 42. Didn't even start doing track work until my mid 40's. What kind of weekly miles and long runs do you do? And weight matters. I went from 170-180 down to 155 where I'm at now, 5'10". I'd just increase your miles first, then race some longer races for awhile. Then start fine tuning your training. I love the 12x400 wo's w 90 sec recovery at about 3k pace. Or 6-8 x 400 with longer rec at mile pace. Both wo's serve a purpose. Also 200's, 300's even longer intervals, or combos of each. You'll get there, be patient. Don't burn out.
I ran the 5:42 during a 20 mile per week plan with one day each week of track work alternating between 400's and 3 to 5 mile tempo runs. And I take every fourth week off completely. I cant do the mileage without pulling a calf muscle, which happened every 3 to 4 months until I got on this plan. Last Fall is the first time I made it through an entire "season" without pulling a calf muscle. Never had any other issues whatsoever. I also never did any periodization whatsoever. After a Thanksgiving 2008 race in which I ran 1:32 for 1/2M I took 3 weeks off and now am doing base training for the first time. This whole running thing is new to me. Hopefully I will make some gains this year. My longest long run ever was 18 miles but typically is around 12 and it takes a good two days to recover from it. I cant imagine running even 30-40 miles per week but I have never tried to build slowly. The first year I just ran as fast as I could every run and went from barely being able to run 3 miles to running a 1/2M in 1:36 in like 5 months. Tips appreciated.
Sorry, Thanksgiving 2009, not 2008.
My fastest mile in the last 6 months was a 5:39 I ran the second mile of a 5k. I was 44 at the time.
4.17, 27 years old.
5:54. 41 years old. (Female)
Guilherme what is your e-mail? I ran a sub 4:40 easy, last year on the road in July.

You are a badass. Send me the roadmap to a fast mile.
osorganismos@gmail.comthanks!
i'm 44 and just ran a 5:02 (admittedly, the course was downhill)
Ran a 4:43 road mile at the Fling Mile on Labor Day. Ran 13 rather hard miles the day before too. I was 45 at the time (now 46!)
40. 5:11.
At the end of a hard week and with no speed. Hoping to go sub 5 soon.
