Saw that. Any reason why anywhere, aside from Hall's recent bomb
What a shameful move. You would think by now Hall would have the courage and backbone to get ready for a showdown with the African and make America proud with at least the most solid effort he could give on that day. Even if he can't beat Sammy he could at least try, but like too many young americans since he doesnt think he can win he decided to not even try. I used to be a real fan of Hall and appreciate his inspirational spreading the good word, but what kind of message does this send? Hall and his coach try to excuse his cowardly absence by saying he needs the extra time to prepare for Boston, but at the same time Sammy is using it to prepare for London so if the best in the world thinks its a good warm up why shouldn't Hall? I wonder if he'll also drop out of Boston when he finds out there will be elite Africans running there?
Hall stunk it up in his last race, he probably just wants to focus on training and not waste the training time traveling to and tapering for a race that he isn't prepared for. If Hall couldn't beat a C list elite like Bairu he's going to get stomped by the world record holder. If he was in shape then your argument might hold some water and I would want to see him at least try, but he isnt and he would be better off focusing on Boston.
Oh and everyone here slammed Hall and Mahon for racing in Arizona when he wasnt fit, so how can you now slam him for NOT racing for the same reason lol.
You see this how running works:
You set major goals for certain performances and races.
everything else in between is just a means to get there.
Runners do not have any schedule to abide to.
If at some point this year Hall sets a marathon PR or has a good finish in a big race then it will be a successful year.
ryan hall is a coward, a pussy and has blown is wad. time to become a professional commentator maybe ESPN will hire him

Which two Americans had a fantastic year last year? Answer is Meb and Ritz. They both raced all year at different distances. Hall has disappointed me the last two years and he will until he starts racing more, even racing to get into shape. It's unreal that he only races two against competition and two tempo races a year. Why is he afraid to compete?
Ryan Hall has his tail between his legs.
He talks about beating the best in the world...well here's a shot to AT LEAST compete and he passes it up.
You people are nothing more than haters. He gets trounced by Bairu, you call him out and knock him for racing when he isn't fit. Then, after he has shown himself to not be fit, you knock him AGAIN for not racing. Who cares is Wanjiru is in the race or not? If he should be racing, then where were you assholes last weekend? If he shouldn't be racing until he is in shape, then you can all shut the f*** up and listen to your own advice.
He's got to keep up his image. The fanboys understand this everyone else is clueless. He's the guy that runs with Martin Lel and thinks he's too fast for everyone so he tells the rabbit to speed up.
wanjiru currently is not in good shape either, he just got 39th in a cross country race, 4 weeks to new orleans, maybe hall will be in shape to test himself against top runners on march 21st in portugal or new york.
I would really like to see Ryan Hall beat that Wansiru kid and then sleep with my wife. She's got big cans.
Hall needs to change his routine and get back to the track. I predict a further decline until he does this. Prediction....a year from now he is with Salazar and Ritz.

this is the right answer
Apparently god gave him a phone call telling him that "it's not your calling to do that race."
I'm gonna go out on a limb here and say that Hall is struggling with nagging injuries. He has not really raced well since London 2008, and has not looked as smooth as he did then. Maybe part of it is focusing purely on the Marathon, but I suspect that no matter what he focused on right now he is not fully healthy so the results will not come until he is. He may need a break - especially from the Marathon.

Interesting fact is that Ryan Hall has run a total of two major championships in his life: 2005 World T&F champs
2008 Olympics
Just sayin'.
