Neutral and Performance-Neutral Running Shoes
Here is my current collection and impressions:
Asics Gel Landreth 5 - nice for easy days, but feel a bit too firm & bulky for me. Like the Defyance 2 better. I've always been Asics fan, but I think I liked the Landreth 2's a lot better as the 2's seemed more flexible to me back then than the landreth 5's today.
Brooks Defyance 2 - probably my favorite daily trainer of all time so far. good all around shoe. The fit and lacing is nice and snug. I like how I get the feeling like my achilles is allowed to stretch more when I'm running as opposed to the Landreths and the Ride 2's (below).
Saucony Pro-Grid Ride 2 - Nice shoe when legs are tired but this one has a bit of a high pillowy ride. Maybe a little too high from the ground/built up in the heel. when I first ran in these, I liked them a lot, but for some reason the cushioning on the left shoe midfoot went "poof" after 250 miles. And I'm 5'10" 132 lbs. Whether this was a defect or because I'm inefficient I'm not sure.
Asics Gel Speedstar 4 - real nice for tempos and stuff. the thing i really like about these is that they are lightweight but amazingly still seem to have the protection of a daily trainer. I could run sub 5 minute pace in these or 8 min pace in these. I feel like i might use these if I race a half-marathon to marathon since they have a race feel but wont cause me problems in a marathon.
Nike Zoom Marathoners - Tried these and like them but not as cushiony as the Speedstars. Maybe this makes sense because they are more for marathon racing than performance training. the Speedstars feel just as fast and have more protection. Legs kinda more beat up after a 10 mile tempo in these.
I was thinking of trying the Brooks Ghost 2's and Mizuno Precision 10's but I open to any suggestions.
Does anyone have any suggestions as to what else I should try based on what I've tried above?
Thanks in advance.
