I think this may be one of the top 5 USA debut's all time.
Hall-2:08:23
Al Sal-2:09:41
Culpepper-2:09:41
Are the only ones I can think of that were faster
Other notables
Greg Meyer 2:13
Bill Rodgers 2:26
Abdi 2:17
Meb 2:12
Ritz 2:14
Josh Rohatinsky debuted in 2:15:22 at the 08 OT.
Was Dave Morris' 2:09 a debut? No matter, this was an excellent debut today.

Nope. Not enough said: VERY impressive!!
Sorry for the confusion, the parentheticals indicate contemporaneous rank, not place.

Damn, I never gave two shits for Brett Gotcher but that is a fine race, debut or not. Well done young man.
Malmo
Didn't Chapa debut on the west coast? And what was Martin's first marathon?
Anyway Gotcher about what you'd expect:
Gothcher 4.6 28.5 = 2:11 2.11 x 1:02 = 2:10:40
Geb 4.6 x 27 = 2:04.2 2.11 x 59' = 2:04
Interesting that 16 of the top 35 on this list have their debut as their best time. I wonder how many of those ran subsequent marathons?
Malmo, would I be wrong to respect DeHaven's runs more than most of those listed?
"Debut"
I thought that jackass, "Whoops!" had melted away. Sadly, he persists.
Yeah..Every year someone comingup.. 2 years late is gone..
Every year new "COACH" come.. take all USA TOP and change all.... When Is time to compete ad where? You got 1st $ then results... I remember somebody got around $75K after run 2h16...(male).. SO WHY training hard..I have what I want
there's no love in USA runners.. all season, all for fun, Maybe few in between like Goucher(couple)Culpepper(couple)but once get comfort that's for the Athlete..
USA Athlete HAVE - Sponsor, Comfort, Materials, short life
in Carreer, fast transition 5K,10K to Marathon,(PRESSION) Always suppost chance "COACH" like many USA Athletes are over(COACH) and many Coach need they let go, USA Athlete run without exchange... like 2day IF check Mumbai Half Marathon, I love Shalane but the 8th female place in Airtel Delhi Marathon finish 1h09'32.. So few second ahead Shalane, Example.. who's the smart who push Kate Macgregor in NY Marathon.(come ON) about Kim Smith(NZ) The ("COACH")
dream and entry the athlete..better he wakeup quick..
Ps Deena and Hall need exchange no compete back yard..It's NICE to watch this guys.. but they are more than they know
the great Athlete always showup in big races ouside the fence..
just a note. greg

You are missing Mark Finucane's 2:11:55 from Houston Tenneco (1984), the No.3 American marathon debut at the time.
Pretty sure Eric Mack ran a sub 2:12 at Chicago a few years back for his debut?
