"Fernandez crushed Ulrey at nationals"...something about that doesn't seem fair. Fernandez certainly didn't crush Ulrey at nationals, as Ulrey was right with him until about 50 meters to go. NOT to mention that Ulrey was also sick that day. Ulrey ran a 3:35, and advanced to the semis at worlds..come on now
Just to add another credential to Leer, he won the Falmouth RR Mile in 3:57.27. great guy and great racer
was german injured during cross country this year?
What about Russell Brown???
at least for another honorable mention with a PR last summer in europe
What does the 'C' stand for in LRC.com?
I think the fact that Lagat never finished off the podium in a 1500/mile is astounding. The guy is a gamer and has all my admiration.
I like watching Manzano race too - he is all fury and intensity. Amazing how two milers can be so different - Lagat is all brains and grace and Manzano is just run like heck and finish as if your life depended on it.
Hard to believe the American Record holder and 3:46 miler Alan Webb can't hold it together to even squeeze in the top 10. Talk about shock and awe.
Pifer finished 4th at USA's ran 3:38 and can't even get on the the top ten. That is a bit rough.
Pifer should be about 6th in the rankings.

Another vote here for Russell Brown. After a year of illness and injury he won all three races he got into over the summer and PR'd with a 3:37.32 (T7). That's worth a mention.
On the other hand, what a great list! These are indeed exciting times for US distance and middle distance.
I don't see how Fernandez rank so high.
That's an awful lot of weight on the NCAA's where Leer Myers and Jager don't compete.
And 3:35, making the US team and getting to the World semis isn't worth top 4?
Head to head isn't everything.
The Giants swept the Cowboys but are behind them in the standings.
The men's top 4 is easy to rank.
The order of US Champs (with Lagat exempt), WC's and seasonal best times are all the same
Lagat, Lomong, Manzano, Ulrey
Ferndandez doesn't run USA's 1500 and has the 17th best time in the country.
Fernandez ran 3:55, indoors for the full mile. I believe this is the World and certainly the American indoor record, I would say that trumps most of the other guys have done.
The Brojos believe that Ulrey did nothing German would not have done, had he run the same races. Of 3rd at USAs, 3:35 in Europe and semis at Worlds, which would German have accomplished had he been in those races? I would answer with the Brojos: all of the above.
Oh, so we're ranking people based on what they believe they would have done not what they did do.
Funny post earlier on that 3:55 indor mile.
For reference, here are the Track and Field News rankings.
1 Bernard Lagat
2 Lopez Lomong
3 Leonel Manzano
4 Dorian Ulrey
5 Stephen Pifer
6 Will Leer
7 Evan Jager
8 Rob Meyers
9 German Fernandez
10 Russell Brown
when did that issue come out? can you post the other distance events?

That's a record for a junior. The other guys could certainly do that.
