Yes, he is classy. Unlike last year's 21 (almost 22) year old winner who lied through his teeth and had officials helping cover up "age-gate" because they were afraid of being called "racist". Just like a lot of the brainwashed punks here. The truth is the truth, wherever it may take you.

I thought the same thing. It was pure class of him to "correct" the interviewer by mentioning he was a junior in terms of age. Sad to hear the chorus of bitter complaints about Verzbicas. God almighty, what is it about the whiners who want to keep pointing this out?! The kid knows it. It's not like he can instantly make himself a junior. If anything, get on the case of the announcers who do the "Wow! And to think, he's ONLY a sophomore!"thing.
I turned 18 a couple weeks before graduating from H.S., but I had teammates who turned 18 in the summer before their senior year. Just never seemed like a big deal. It's life. Add to that there are seniors who are 17-18 who have been shaving for 2-3 years and 17-18 yr. olds who still look like they're just beyond puberty. Life is so unfair. Maybe it would help if we bitched and moaned a little more.
lucas is only 2-3 months older than hasay when she won it last year
Why do people care since he isn't even pretending to be american.
Lietuva! Lietuva! Lietuva!
I think 89 Champ Bryan Dameworth was 19 or almost 19 when he won. Californian that ran at Wisconsin.

Um, no. Since when is it SOOO classy to admit something soooo obvious and on the minds of everyone? Never. He is trying to head of criticism. Smart move, but not "classy."
He would be a tool to NOT acknowledge it.
He sounds like a good kid, and is an incredible athlete, no matter what his age is.
But he nearly as old, and has as much of a training background, as plenty of seniors.
well...great interview
from here on out I will be cheering for this kid!...I don't care how old he is, he will be 18 for his senoir year XC season, but not track.
ps.. The footlocker interviewer "Tracy" has to be the worst interviewer I have ever seen!...hell, he makes the people he is interviewing nervous and uncomfortable

Hypocrite. This guy was sucking Solomon Haile's balls, and Haile LIED about being an 18 year old, when he was as old as Verzbicas will be as a college jr. But that's different, right? PC pussy all the way, is Sir Lance.
Bump him up a class and he's the same age as everyone else. Most of us were 18 by the time graduation rolled a round, with rest turning 18 within a few months afterward. Webb wasn't old for his class when he turned 18 in January 2001, and neither was Hall when he turned 18 in October 2000.
Cormier was 19 when he won.

I just gained a lot of respect for this guy. He's not trying to pull anything.

He doesn't look overly developed for a high school kid, i.e., super-thin, high-mileage. He's just got the right build, a good head on his shoulders and lots of opportunities to come. Seems like he should do well.
Youngest male Footlooker champ ever!
And he made it look easy!!!!!!
I like this kid. Good for him, that was a great race.

People who harp on age are the same ones who could never win anything themselves but blame their lackluster careers on being at some disadvantage. Would bet anything that the whiners couldn't beat this kid EVER regardless of how old they get. Bunch of whiners who every year try to spoil the accomplishments of kids as they look for reasons for their own poor performances. Makes me sick every year to hear it...

FYI... Tracy is the VP for the Competitor Group (formely Elite Racing, the company that puts on the Carlsbad 5000 and all the Rock N'Roll Marathons). He has quite a resumae. Was even an Olympic coach amongst other things. However, he is an arrogant AH and a bit strange.
Lukas seemed confident, not cocky. I appreciated his recognition that he really is jr age. I appreciate his down to earth attitude.
