I have seen multiple people comment on his age and I was just wondering how old in fact he is. Thanks.

I know I saw his birthday listed as the first week of January. So he is 16 right now, will be 17 in a few weeks.
Note: this is nearly the same exact age German was his senior year when he set his huge course record at CA state meet (14:24) beating the 2nd fastest runner of the day by 49 seconds (German had turned 17 just the week before when he ran that race).
Franklyn Sanchez was also not quite 17 when ran 8:49 indoors his senior year.
So Lukas is a MONSTER no what matter what age he is, but he is the same age as a LOT of seniors.
17
he is the age or a standard junior in highschool, so he is one year older than most kids in his grade.
I was 17 as a junior and wasn't even close to the oldest person in my grade.
Most kids graduate high school as 18 years of age. Lukas will be 19, so he is about a year older than others in his grade. Not two. How many seniors turn 17 half way through their senior year? Almost none.
Ryan Hall was 18 when he won the Mt. SAC Cross Country Invitational, and was four months shy of turning 19 when he won the California State 1600m title.

Me. I'm a junior and he is 10 monthes older than me.
Am I the only one whos tired of people who are far too old for their grade winning High-School races?
i was a 19 year old college junior 6 weeks ago. graduating at 19 is old, but not unheard of.
Just flunk all your classes this year and you'll be 19 as a senior.
Basically, he is a junior by age, so calling him the first sophomore to win is misleading although technically correct in the sense that it is his 'class'. When Hasay won her second FL, she was 17 and 3 months, about four months older than LV.
well in the case of verzbicas he just won it as a 17 year old, so i dont know what the problem is with him being old for his grade.
Regardless of his age he still beat all of the kids older than him. The boy is a triathlete, I'm sure he is very aerobically fit as well as strong. This young man works himself hard and we can see the results of that.
Hasay was 17 and 2.5 months actually...
Hey, my brothers and sisters and I don't appreciate you guys making fun of our Dad
He's 16, almost 17. Which makes him about 4 years younger than Elias Gedyon, who's a jr at Loyola in L.A.. Although Gedyon lies about his age. Which is easily apparent when you meet him in person. Both Verzbicas and Gedyon are over-age, but LR posters sweep to the defense of Gedyon simply because he's a full of joy African while Verzbicas is an evil white person.

It would be misleading if they called him the first 15-year-old to win. I can live with calling him what he is, even if he's a year older than most sophomores. The main point is that he was the youngest guy in the toughest high school field of the year and he still won by a country mile. So whiny protestations aside, I'm sure we can all agree that that's a remarkable accomplishment.

I first met Gedyon while he was in middle school. I have no reason to doubt the legitimacy of his age.

Wrong. He is likely at least 1.5 years older (and yes, that is 50% more than you are suggesting) than than the average kid in his grade, and almost two years older than many.
As I stated in my previous post, German turned 17 late in the fall of his senior year. Lukas will turn 17 in a few weeks. That makes Lukas, as a SOPH, nearly as old German was as a senior. And .....it makes Lukas as old as Franklyn Sanchez was when he ran his 8:49i as a SENIOR. AND... it makes Lukas as old as a friend of mine from HS who ran ~4:10 his SENIOR year in the mile. And I know PLENTY of seniors that turned 17 early in their senior year (including a couple state champs).
Bob Kennedy turned 17 Aug right before his senior year.
Lukas, also has a long, extensive, nearly professional training program behind him. I am not holding that against him of course, I am simply stating that it is not like he is "young" in terms of experience/years training either.
I'd say in terms of his actual age (17 shortly), and his training/competing background, he is like many seniors that have come before him.
This is taking nothing away from his excellence as seen in a vacuum. But to consider him a soph is absurd. His times/performances this year should be compared to the times and performances achieved during the SENIOR years of guys like German and Bob Kennedy, because the ages are similar, and Lukas has at least as many miles/competitions (if you count swimming, duathlon, triathlon, running etc) as they did going in their senior year.
he won footlocker. you whiny little B*tches didn't even make it out of the region. shut up. you're weak.
