I'm a bit out of shape and I'm going to race a 3k on an indoor track this weekend. My guess is I'll be in the 9:10ish range (if I'm lucky). Would you wear spikes or flats? I'm thinking flats, but spikes might make things just a bit easier (lighter).

Trainers. Rexing style.
9:10 is plenty fast for spikes.
Flats will indicate that you aren't taking it seriously, and provide an excuse for running slowly.
flats. your calf muscles will thank you and you'll probably have a better finish.

Haha, I'm actually leaning towards flats for this vary reason. I also agree that spikes will probably beat me legs up. Plus if I'm over estimating my fitness (or more like under estimating my out of shapness) and blow up and run 9:30+ I would feel silly in spikes.
