does anyone know of any good deals out there now?
There's lots of great HRMs from lots of brands... what features are you looking for? What data do you find most valuable? Male or female? Big or small wrists?
1. Heart Rate
2. Distance
3. Speed
4. Med wrist size
5. Male
I like the polar - with the foot pod (s625x), I'd also consider the suunto models; they look a little more stylish but use the same technology.
With the foot pod you can expect about +/-10% accuracy out of the box (you can calibrate it to get a lot closer). Mine varies with my pace and what shoes I'm wearing, and even which foot I have it on, but after you get used to it you'll figure out that say 7:15 pace displayed is actually 7:30 or whatever.
It has way more features than I use. I mostly use it for logging - so I don't have to write down my mileage every day, just download once in a while.
The software is pretty good and you can do all kinds of reports with the data. I'll use it in races, primarily to go back later and see where I lost time or whatever. The HR part is really useful for keeping honest during easy runs.
The main factor for me against the garmin was that I could use the treadmill once ina while and still log the miles. I've also heard people complain about losing signal in certain terrain or locations, which isn't an issue with the foot pod. Supposedly, polar HRMs are the most accurate.
