This isn't a criticism, just a question. I assume there's a reason (lack of appearance fees, no desire to waste a race due to unfamiliar food or racing conditions, perhaps even language barriers with elite athlete coordinators), but it just seems odd. I just took my first look at the results from Amsterdam, and the race was packed with 2:10-2:18 runners; I don't know if there was a second set of pacers for these guys, but I imagine there would be packs of 3-6 guys who could work together pretty well most of the way. And a race like this might get a little more attention from American (which I would imagine can only be a good thing from a sponsor's point-of-view) if a guy like Jason Hartman were to run.
There are tons of races like this: Fukuoka (which I believe Justin Young raced recently), Amsterdam, Paris, Rome (which I believe Jen Rhines raced a few years ago), a few more Japanese races, etc. It just surprises me that more Americans don't look at races like these, and seem to only race Berlin and London (and, recently, really only Berlin) when they go abroad.
