With their number one runner retiring in two weeks, do they have anyone to step up and represent? I have not heard of anyone besides Brian Sell over the past year.

Desiree Davila 2:27:53--11th in WC
Melissa White 2:32:55--8th in Chicago
I would have to say that those 2 will be carrying the torch.
Maybe Mike Morgan 12th in the last Oly Trials or Nick Arciniaga 17th in the last trials or Patrick Rizzo who finished 10th in Chicago last weekend.
It's like the Ewing Theory. Everyone else will step up when Sell goes.
An article in the Detroit Free Press Marathon section quoted Brian as saying he was planning on running competitively until at least August, 2010. He's applying for Dental School, but apparently hasn't enrolled anywhere yet.
....had his house sold on November 2nd, he'd be gone! Don't believe me, check out his house on Flotrack and then buy it. He will not be buying another house or renting in my state. I assure you he'll be gone ASAP.
The Hanson's lived and died with Brian Sell, as far as the male side goes. With 2:15 currently being the best they have, the program will go on, but not with the same hype as they have had in the past. Mike Morgan did fine in the trials almost 2 years ago.......but what has he done since then?
Go Melissa and go Desi......they will bring the Hanson's program more notice than anyone currently on the male side. Your opinion will vary, as is usually course for letsrun.
p.s. And yes, he made $100k last year because of breaking 2:11.
Hansons ignored most of the rest of us because of Brian. I like Brian but he knew the deal and definitly worked it in his favor. He was mad if Clint or Trent got too much credit. He always felt like it was stealing something from him. K & K will probably do a better job when they focus on others.
I have heard the same stuff, only worse about Sell. And I hear they are going to dissolve. Watch the next coming months, at least on the mens side. Their numbers are thinning rather dramatically.
I did not mean to turn this into an attack on Brian. He is an animal when it comes to training toughness. I just think that his time has come to move on with Sarah and the kids. K & K will just have to reload and that is probably a good thing. Many of the guys have been around a little too long. I think the process is already underway.
I don't know when or where Clint or Trent were ever getting too much credit. Brian got plenty of notice, tons actually compared to those two.
If you mean the 2004 trials when Trent slipped under 2:13 and Brian fell from the front, then I understand and agree that there was a short period of time where Trent got more credit, but not overall.
Well my sources told me 5 years ago that a certain runner got into Brian's head the night before the those trials and Brian did not intend to run the way he did if not for that conversation. I'm not saying which runner, but that's what I was told. Every since that 2004 race, not one Hanson runner was really ever in his league, from the simulators to actual marathons. By the way, Brian is a really, really, nice guy. Humble as can be, but also smart enough to know who really capitalized off of his running. Enough said.
Brian is the hardest working dude I have ever seen and he will be a successful dentist, father and husband.
The Hansons started the program in 1999. They added Brooks in 2003 through all the success that the program had achieved. There was a huge front page Wall Street Journal article in either 2002 or 2003 (before Brooks)Brian Sell had not yet done anything of significance yet in 2003, so he had nothing to do with the Brooks deal.
Hansons are cleaning house yet again. Half of the mens team is getting the axe. Hansons could turn into an all womens program. Kevin's H.S. athletes will go straight to the ODP.
Why is there so much turnover at Hansons these days?
Who has recently left?
Gone: Kyle O Brien, Michael Kilburg, Sheehan, Jankowski, Clint is pretty much retired with his physical therapy business, and more to come (watch the next two months)
they added one of Rojo's old boys and also Christian Wagner. Wagner is definitely a solid addition, this Canaday character may be too although he hasn't done much yet
Why did Sheehan leave? I ran against him and college and he was pretty talented.
CWags is a nice add. Is Jellema still around?

Kyle, highly overrated and a 2:15 marathoner on his best day. Leading the 08' Trials for a few minutes, big deal.
What have the rest of them done? Look at their accomplishments and the amount of time they've been there and you'll find the answer to your question.
Who's still there? Kevin and Keith and they will always be there.
Kilburg and Jankowski both weren't there very long. I wonder why they left? Wagner is a nice pick-up. Hopefully he can step it up a notch with this group. With Sell leaving, this puts the Hansons in a spot of filling that #1 role. Rizzo is their best runner right now outside of sell. Mike Morgan is running well, also. I hope they get a few of the top guys coming out next year and I hope they get a few more women in their program, as they're having a lot of success in that realm as of late.
Kilburg and Jankowski just needed a different type of system to thrive, and they will with Jankowski now at Zap and Kilburg back west both will get back to where they were pre-Hanson's and hopefully will improve upon that. Rizzo has put together a string of very strong runs for himself lately, but he's certainly not their best outside of Sell. His race at Chicago was solid, and he can most likely keep improving, but it still only puts him somewhere around 7th or 8th on their all time list. He's probably a solid 3rd or 4th on their current depth chart. Morgan is head and shoulders above the rest when he's healthy. Even coming off his summer injury I wouldn't be surprised at all to see him go 2:13 in December.
