I think it might be Kip Janvrin's 4:09.07 in his 8,017 point effort in 1999. Anyone know for sure?

I don't -- but I add that the world record of 3:58.7 was set in a 7583 point effort by Robert Baker in 1980. And I am unable to resist further noting that Baker is a DIII alumnus.
Thanks. I knew Baker was the world record holder but he scored 7,479 in that decathlon. I think Janvrin might have the fastest 1500(over 8000 points)under the current tables. But Peter Herbert of Germany ran 4:08.42 in 1983 and scored 8,111.
I don't know the answer but I know who would. Frank Zarnowski is the guy who has written many books on the decathlon as well as being the announcer for many U.S. Championship meets. You might google him and see if you can find his e-mail address. He is the foremost authority on the decathlon when it comes to statistics.
This thread has gone this long w/out some pinhead writing, "Decathletes are p@#sies for not runnign 3:50!"?
...amazing....

Thanks. I think I might email him.
Peter Herbert also ran 4:05.05 in a wind-aided(over 4m/s) decathlon in 1983 scoring 8,147.
Forgive my ignorance (is that the first time those words have been posted on lrc?), but how can a 1500m run be wind aided? I thought lap races do not take wind readings because it is moot. You run in circles.

Nevermind. I get it now. You were referring to the whole Dec. score being wind aided. My bad.
