Maybe it was already posted somewhere but I didn't see it.

Is that like the Onion of the running world?
The 9x1600 in 4:21 might be more impressive
Wow. That's 59 half marathon pace. Thanks for posting this.
I'm actually more excited that he will be running World XC. That's pretty sweet.
People get on triathletes for poor measurments of courses...
If this is true, then:
(a) Todd William's 15k record was also eclipsed
(b) Ritz will soon hold every American record from 5k to the marathon.
The workout was on the Nike Campus where the measurements for the five miles on the road would be quite exact.

would you expect anything less from ritz? i think not
No way
He must have passed 10k in around 28 flat
damn it, I recently ran 51:52 on a tempo 10 miler and thought I was good.
Dathan Ritzenhein exceeded the U.S. record for 10 miles on Monday (Sep 28) in a workout. Ritzenhein covered the 10 miles in 45 minutes, 3 seconds -- running 4:30.3 per mile. He did half the workout on the track and half of it on the road. Alberto Salazar administered the workout.
That is quite impressive.
A week ago (Sep 21?), Ritzenhein went through an ambitious track workout in which he did 9 x 1,600 meters in 4:21 with a 400 meter recovery between each interval.
I wonder how wise it is to run repeat miles that hard the week before a World Championships race. It is good to see he is aiming for the WCCC in the spring. Those are impressive sessions regardless how he does in the races. Otherwise it looks like he'll soon be having a run at Bekele's 10k record on the track.
This is probably splitting hairs, but was the five miles on the track actually 5 miles or was it 8,000 meters?
At that pace, we're only talking about 7-8 seconds total difference, so not that big of a deal.

What do you mean? The world championships are on October 11.

Yay for you
The article doesn't say who measured the course, who timed it, etc. It seems like the reporter might say whether Alberto told him of the workout, or whether he saw it himself.
Impressive run none the less. I wonder what Bekele could do for 15k on a track.
OK, I have to ask...was he wearing trainers?

It is not wise to empty the tank with short reps before going to a world championships race.
Curious about what amount of rest for 400 recovery would be for a guy like Ritz. 9x 1600 in 4:21 is smoking. 2-3 minute jog?
