Let's give the guys time to at least finish the race, which began about 15 minutes ago.
can anyone on here open the results. I keep trying, but I just get a message that the file is damaged.
Do the times look slow to anyone else?
Competition looks a little weaker than usually. Last year Mead ran about 30 seconds faster but he had all the Auburn guys to go after.
I believe they had heavy rain yesterday,so the course was prob pretty slick & muddy.
The course was very wet and they looped it so you had to run some extra hills.. video of course on flowtrack.. and the later races had more mud
rain off and on all day yesterday.
Looks like Mead went out in 2:49 for the first 1000m and had a solid 10 second lead, and held that for the rest of the race.
big pile ups in the men's race at about 1200...very amusing to watch, probably not so much fun to run in.
mead looked great, never challenged...may have dinged up his hammy somewhere on the course though.
MN looked great through 3, but that doesn't help them at all.
very impressive race by oklahoma imo.

That's where I took a spill in the DII race. I took out 4 other guys with me.
GO MAJAK... represent New Hampshire...

and they'd look good through 4 if they could keep Torchia healthy. What's the story there?

I heard that Torchia dabbled in some triathlons and ultra/multi sport endeavors this summer, which may have lead to stress fracture(s) in hip area, I believe. Plasencia was very frustrated, but Torchia seems like a very independent individual. Yes, the Gophers looked great 1-3, then fell off. No surprises really, need to get 2 guys to step up. RS Frosh Peter Gagnion (sp?) looked good as 4th guy. He's very strong and should get better. Mead looked absolutely phenomenal opening up a huge lead by 1 Mile. Iowa State guy closed somewhat, but Mead was able to maintain a pretty healthy lead to the finish. I think Mead will do very well at NCAAs!!
Unless you actually know Torch's story, you probably shouldn't go saying stuff about what may or may not have caused his injury. Torch did nordic skiing and triathlon last spring BECAUSE he's had so many injuries from running. Plas and Torch came to an agreement about this and Torch agreed to focus on running and not do any tri's over the summer.
Other than his charity fundraiser (is this the "ultra" event you were referring to?) where he biked, rollerskiied, kayaked and ran in May, he did exactly what plas wished and stayed away from biking and tri's and focused on running over the summer.
From what he has said, he never ran more than 70-80 miles a week over the summer and still managed multiple stress fractures that more or less came out of nowhere. Based on his track record with injuries, obviously this kid just has some biomechanical issues and running is just hard on his body.
Bottom line: It would be great to have Torchia back. He was just as pumped about cross season as everyone else and was extremely disappointed about his injuries. Who knows, he may even be back by regionals. But please, don't go saying stuff about what may or may not have caused his injuries unless you know the whole story.
I was surprised at how many Africans run for Iowa State. Their top 3 guys were either from Kenya or Eritrea and the 2-5 of the women are the same. When did they start recruiting so heavily from overseas?
