Which watch is better at showing me my pace during the run, the FR 50, or the FR 305?

get the 305, I've never owned either, but the 305 has GPS
Probably the 50 if you take the time too calibrate it. Plus you have the bonus of not carrying around a 10 pound weight while you run.
Then again, you could buy the 305 then get a footpod for it and have both, so take that into consideration.
oh ok thanks
how hard is it to calibrate? And after calibration, how far off on a mile do you think it would be?
You get used to the weight of the 305. Then it's easy to use. If you don't use a HRM, you can go with the 205. Don't know about the 50.
There was another thread about Garmin recently, someone who's used both extensively indicated that the accelerometer model (50/60) does a better job giving accurate pace during the run.
The FR 50 does the pacing well when calibrated. It's not hard to calibrate, but you do need to read a manual. This is definitely barebones, and the FR 50 has some funky battery issues. In the end, I'm happy with it. If you are serious about running (sub- 17 5k), you may want the 305.
the Fr 60 is better than the FR 50

Not hard at all. As for your other question, I'm not sure what you mean. The footpod is about pace, and it is within a couple percent. It could be off as much as half a mile for 20 mile run (2-3%), which a GPS would be much more accurate, but every time you look at your watch, the footpod will tell you your pace within that same 2-3%, where-as the GPS will frequently be off a minute per mile either way. It will average out correctly, but instantaneously it is not good.
Neither unit gives good real-time data on your speed. It will calculate average pace very well for an entire run, but it's not going to be very accurate on current pace.
The 405 has better technology, get it with a foot pod, maybe on ebay it sends the data to your computer so that you can analyze your runs
The 305 and FR50/60 both do that as well.
may I have some pie? wrote:

The 50/60 does.

like the person above you said, the FR 50 and 60 will give better immediate pacing, while the ones with the GPS will be best at telling you your total milage at the end of your run
