Welsh record holder James Thie (Cardiff AAC) returned to Bermuda to defend his mile title on Friday night, 16 January, and won despite the stiff competition from Kenyan athletes Elkanah Angwenyi and Patrick Nthiwa.
Stormy weather battered the athletes, which resulted in a slow tactical race with Thie winning in a time of 4:18.81. Angwenyi was second in 4:19.26 with the rest of the field well back.
He said: ?The crowd were amazing, I was cheered on for the whole mile.?
The Bermuda Elite mile is the first of many mile races Thie is preparing for this year. Next weekend he jets to New York to defend his title at the New Balance Indoor Mile.
