I started training in racing flats about four years ago and had great success with it. My calf stiffness went away and my plantar issues also went away. I got a little crazy in my training in 2006 and developed a calcaneal stress fracture in October of that year. It took until the end of 2008 to be able to run normally again. The only problem is that I can't train in flats anymore, my heel just can't take it. I tried many trainers and the DS Trainer worked well until I recently started having bad calf problems on one leg and extensor tendon inflamation. The inflamation was from the shoes rubbing on the area from my big toe on up. I loved these shoes, but can't wear them anymore!
Is there a shoe that is similar to the DS Trainers (lower heel counter, not much bells and whistles, basic shoe)? What other shoes fall into the 9 to 10 ounce range with the heel lower to the ground and adequate cushioning?
