they're not very clutch
Absolutely not. This is like comparing apples and....dinosaurs.
What world record did Alan Webb hold for three years again? Alan Webb has run under (____) more times than any other 1500m runner (because Asafa has run under 9.80 more than any other sprinter currently...in fact it was formerly more than all other sprinters combined but I think that is no longer the case). How many olympic golds does Alan Webb have? What were the times Webb medaled at world's again?
In terms of a track and field hall of fame, Powell is in....Webb would not be even in consideration.
I consider Webb to be the better athlete of the two.
I don't
No athlete outside of North America knows who Alan Webb is anymore.

the first post didnt mention anything about time. i agree that they both severely underperform at big meets.

Well, I guess someone has to be wrong ...

Powell, I wouldn't say he be in the Hall of Fame either. And why, Beacause he will have the most sub 10 sec 100m races ever? That's not enough. It's a great accomplishment, but I bet he would trade in half of those times for a few major world titles!!!! Best believe that. I think in order for him to achieve more, he might need to surround himself with some good positive thinking people, to help on the mental side.
...world record holder for three straight years...and wouldn't be in. Hmm, I question your logic.

If this is the only criterium, the he could be the Steve Scott of sprinting.
Here is another way to look at it: Powell comes in second to Gay an runs 9.88. This time is good enough to win international races 90% of the time. Please tell me time times that Webb runs that would win that often. When has Webb come in second this year against quality competition?

Ok, let's take that into consideration. He was the world record holder between June 2005 and May 2008 (there are others who have held it longer than Powell), what if he was undefeated during that timeframe--maybe-- (including winning the 2005 and '07 World Champs along with 2006 World Cup)? He would have more credibility as being a proven champion, to go along with his world record span. Yes, he has run more sub-10s than anyone, but there are those (FMR 100m WR holders) who have run less than Powell but have won a major individual title (World Outdoor Champs or Olympics) in the 100m or 200m.
Name Title(s) # Sub 10's
Carl Lewis 6 total in 100-200m (World & Olympic) 15
Donovan Bailey 95' World & 96 Olympic 100m 15
Usain Bolt 2008 Olympic 100-200m 12
Jim Hines 1968 Olympic 100m 1
(Ran the 1st ever electronically timed sub-10 race (9.95), a world record that stood for nearly 15 years, the longest ever)
Jackson Scholz 1924 Olympic 200m 0
Eddie Tolan 1932 Olympic 100-200m 0
(has an Alltime sprint record of 300 wins and 7 losses!)
Jesse Owens 1936 Olympic 100-200m 0
Bobby Joe Morrow 1956 Olympic 100-200m 0
Armin Hary 1960 Olympic 100m 0
(Germany's only male Olympic sprint champion and 1st non-American in 100m since 1928)
Bob Hayes 1964 Olympic 100m 0
Don Quarrie 1972 Olympic 200m 0
These are all former world record holders in the 100m.
Jim Hines 1 should have a major asterisk as should his "longest ever" world record due to the altitude at which it was run.
This is racist thread.
No matter how superior a black guy is, he is equal to much mediocre whitey.

What makes this thread racist
It became racist when he used the term "whitey."

You cannot be serious. How many olympic medals has Webb won? How many world record has he beaten? There is no comparison to be made. Asafa ran into a thundering monster. Webb ran into pizza and fast food joints.

They are both even considering the amount of talent and promise they have. They both have a whole lot of added "weight", pressures, stress high expectations from their respective countries and the media by which they are unable to handle mentally well.
