honestly, this interview read like the thoughts of a rather aimless runner without a COACH. definitely didn't sound like a veteran professional.
at this point in the game, his knife edge should be well honed by coach and athlete.
there are so many things wrong with his holistic venture in running. to start: 1)strength training?...he's an overly-muscled guy (for distance running) to begin with; just adds unnecessary mass and bulk to a guy already built much like a sprinter--dumb idea coach. 2) very high work volume. i've never seen this work with "speed" guys like webb. more often, it drains away that extraordinary gift, leaving them without their exclusive and mostly unbeatable resource. you learn this if you ever coach sprinters--and a good part of webb is a sprinter, especially compared to his 1500m peers. he should have his american peers in the palm of his hand in the last 300m. again, the coach should know better.
3) the seeming lack of any refinement in his diet attending to the high-level needs of elite athletic performance--does he not heed his coach's strong advice re diet and performance? hmmm...? puzzling, because, like many of you, i know i could get this guy turned around, but the answer light never seems to turn on for webb and company. it's sad.
