"What's the only thing more boring than track? Field."
That was their introduction to Bolt's outstanding 200m run on Sportscenter this morning. Not only is it an irrelevant comment, it's just ignorant and offensive but not surprising.

how does that saying go...?
oh yea, \"the truth hurts\"
get a life and get over the fact that a sportscenter news anchor thinks track and field are boring. for one thing, it was just a joke. for another thing, there are a whole LOT more people out there who completely agree.
I agree. To about 95% of the "regular" sports-viewing audience in the U.S., T&F isn't even a blip on the radar. That number may drop every four years as the Olympics roll around.
EPSN has really gone downhill. They still cover some good actual sporting events from time to time, but it seems like the rest of the time it is celebrity poker. And the sportscenter idiots just sound like white rappers on speed...they are simply not tolerable.
EPSN?
ESPN is no longer about sports, it is about marketing the "ESPN brand".
The period goes inside the quotation marks. You'll find your arguments more persuasive if you appear intelligent.
right on! who cares where the period goes.

Seems you are jealous that you didn't catch the grammar error first?

The period is in the correct place in the original post.

It is called a grammatical error, not a grammar error.
So stop watching them? ESPN is awful, but as long as you keep tuning in to Sportscenter they can make their money and do as they please.
Seriously when's the last time they covered something remotely interesting? Everyone's been fooled into thinking they are the authority in the viewing of sports, but really what do you normally see on ESPN? Awful shows like Sportscenter, cheap seats, Madden video game reality shows, Spelling Bees, Bulls and Cavs games, and baseball? C'mon, give me a break... all that shit sucks.
It wasn't very hard for me to just give up watching their channels completely. Other stations that I despise like MTV are at least hard for me to quit when there are ridiculous shows such as RW/RR challenges which have me watching them for unknown reasons.
But ESPN, genuinely just isn't that interesting. Think about it - next time you're watching sportscenter, just take a moment to step back and think of how bored and un-entertained you are at that moment.
Yeah, ESPN sucks, stop watching it.
How about some self-accountability and let's come up with a plan to make it more exciting. No excuses. We need to change things up. The old way of doing business is failing. A new and more exciting way of presenting our sport is necessary.
Hmm how about seperating meets into different specialties? Sprint meets, mid-distance meets, Long D meets, Throwing Meets, Jumping Meets?
I feel like it'd be easier to market each as their own seperate entities, instead of mashing them all together as a whole.
The length of the meets would go down for sure.
I'd have a pretty good time going to a meet that just featured 800, mile, and Steeple.
Maybe even do heats for the 800 and mile, that way a little more strategy gets put into play, w/ having the the finals at the end, but not too long after the prelims. Would make for a lot of upsets and exciting races in my opinion.
Obviously it'd never happen and in general nothing will change, but we can dream big can't we?
I'd also be more inclined to be watching field events if the entire meet was dedicated to them. I could imagine having everyone come to meet to watch some great javelin throwers and Discuss throwers would be much like those big "World's strongest man Competitions".
But yeah it's only dreaming because it'll never happen, not on the elite scale that it'd need to happen at least to make people come.
I can't believe someone on LR got it! Wow!!

congratulations to the high school graduate! woo hoo!

Get rid of the sprints and say good-bye to 3/4 of your gate (outside Eugene) and any chance of being televised.
Given that ESPN has a complete monopoly on sports coverage I'd say it's pretty hard to just stop watching. Yeah Sportscenter has gone downhill in the last few years but pretty much every major sporting event they televise along with a select few stations. Now if you only watch track and field, yes I can see how you hate ESPN.
P.S. MTV is hard to stop watching. I'm embarrassed to say I watch Real World but screw it, its entertaining.
i'm sure it's almost impossible, but there needs to be some sort of league or team system. we're stuck with this b.s. where all the studs avoid each other all season (at least in the sprints). make these guys/gals run for money on a regular basis. make their races count for something. then give bonuses for fastest time for the season, and world champ, etc. make me want to watch an event other than distance and usain bolt, please!
