Well, at least we have basically narrowed it down to one particular person who seems to have a very vocal and aggresive stance on what my ability is, not only as a runner, but also as a coach. Heck, apparently as a human being too, though I doubt we've ever met. While I would hope you would just ask me what I have to offer, it doesn't seem you can do that without also criticizing my potential efforts or past accomplishments. And that is very sad.......
As far as my past experience in the sport, yes I do feel that gives me a bit of room to say that I have learned a few things here and there. Actually, I feel I have learned A LOT of things A LOT of places. And the only people that I so-called "alienated" myself from were the stubbourn, narrow minded ones who never took the time to talk to me. No one in the past 15 years has ever been able to say they spent time with me, or know of someone who has, and can say the such bad things about me. A very sad and true fact. They simply vented their cynical ideals based on superficial views. And I certainly stopped apologizing for people who wouldn't take the time to find out who I am a long freggin time ago........
I don't know why there is so much hoopla over calling myself a coach. I do it with the same means of once calling myself a runner. Or even once calling myself a student. I really doubt there could still be people out there believing running rag magazines about the wild side of "the doc". I never denied dipping into the fruits of pleasure here and there like any other alcoholic partying runner. But you insult everything I accomplished by saying I did not take things seriously. Once again, just because I didn't do what YOU wanted me to do, doesn't mean I was nothing. I think that's the selfish factor we outta be looking at........
I have been coaching and advising athletes (both running and triathalon) for the past 3 or 4 years. I have had a position with the San Diego Track Club (as a paid freggin' coach by way) for the past year and a half. I have worked with every type of runner from a silver medalist in the Olympics to some of the top runners locally and nationally. I do not yet have my official national coaching certificate, but plan on starting that program this fall. From that point on, I will be certified to coach any US National Team. I also plan to start my masters classes in Sport Psychology (in homage to Coach Wetmore) by next spring. If that's all you wanted to know, then I surely would of answered quicker before you got your blood pressure WAY above normal. But I guess I didn't realize I needed to qualify something I was already qualified for.......
Quote - "For what it's worth, I have been around running for a long time and met a lot of coaches, some very good and some very bad. I have had the opportunity to meet DOC and talk to him a number of times on a casual basis recently. My impression is that he has the requisite personal qualities to relate to athletes that he is coaching, and more importantly, has a genuine enthusiasm now for coaching and for his athletes."

I doubt this will satisfy Mr Curious or a few others. Because everytime they gets what they are asking for, they goes for more. Attention starved is the disability I believe. That, or some anger management (not currently performed by lap2go management - so sorry) might be a good way to go. Either way, asking if this is a satisfactory explanation will surely be a waste of my time.......
Self promotion? Is that not redundant? Isn't the idea of promotion many times for ones self? Promoting to the product you wear. Promoting the view you have. Promoting the food you eat. All of those are for ones self. I now have a decent business, which I hope to expand. I wish to use this site to help in that endeavor. I felt there would be a good group of runners in here who are eager to run faster. I wish to help. Whether I am good at that is up to the runners who actually sign up and try. Go up to Wetmore, Lanana, or Vigil and ask them if they are good coaches. They will tell you to not ask such a generalized question, train with them, and find out yourself. While I could only hope someday to be as successful as those mentioned coaches, I do feel I have a very good relationship with the runners I currently work with (if you bothered to find out, other than just assume from what YOU THINK you know). And with even more experience, I hope to become even a better coach..........

p.s. For your information, I was indeed cut by Nike after I submitted an official letter of "retirement from the sport". Then, AND ONLY THEN, was I released from sponsorship. Damn, does anyone in here have a valid point with making up crap? Or is everyone's view in here based on cynicism, jealousy, and lies? Maybe I am looking in the wrong place for some good runners. Gez, sorry I offered to help. I'll look somewhere else
p.s.s. Friends, don't bother sticking up for me. And you surely don't have to remind me to "not let those idiots get to you". Trust me, they really haven't in many years. I can chose to ignore the jerks, or take care of it with ease. Either way, I know I have your support, and thoroughly appreciate it. Good luck to everyone in their training......
