NIKE let go of 1750 employees on Tuesday, why is this not huge news. Does anyone have anymore details beyond the article below (link)?

This is where I saw 1750 employees, so I am not sure if it is 1400 or 1750. Sad news for those let go. I thought the NIKE was doing well these days. Anyone have more info? Anyone in NIKE running let go?
Josh Rowe.
And how many has Adidas let go ?

Does that include Galen or does he still have a job?
I would cancel NXN too. The Northwest is such a terrible place for anything outdoors late fall.
The next big thing is barefooting. Nike will fail.
that's cheap commodities. anyone can make what nike makes. eventually the competition low balls the leader and the entire business goes down. it's a common scenario.
Nike isnt a commodity.
I applaud Nike for giving those people jobs in the first place. The company apparently was bloated and inefficient and really didn't need those employees anyway even if their sales were a little better. Rather than cry about those losing their jobs, we should be glad they had them in the first place since they only had them because of the laziness of the other workers. Now those lazy a55 workers will actually have to do something so all the best runners can have their own personal underwater treadmills to train on.
I thought they were supposed to be working like slaves in their sweatshops and now you tell me that I was paying for lazy ass workers to sit around doing nothing.

Portland is a great location for XC in December.
Holy Jesus move NXN to Phoenix where it's warm. That horse manure dump they have it is the pitts in December. Only a really stupid company hosts a meet in the worst possible venue in a shithole town in the middle of the cold season. What a bunch of dorks they have at Nike.
OK, let's say that barefoot running takes on and crumbles all we know about RUNNING. Yes, Nike would be screwed with their current line. However, they would change up their line and come out with something for the new customer needs. Let's take it one step further: Nike running can't supply the running public with one viable product. As much as it would hurt their core mission, Nike could shut down all of domestic and foreign running ops and rely on EVERY OTHER SPORT THAT THEY OWN. You think Nike's Basketball Division, Baseball division, Soccer division, apparel divisions, cross training divisions, classics division, skateboarding division, equipment divisions, wrestling division, lacrosse division, cheerleading division, field hockey division, cricket division, volleyball division, etc, etc, etc are hurting if RUNNING goes down? They can shut down a few divisions and still be hugely profitable. I can't be sure, but I am fairly certain there will be swooshes on athletic products for years to come.
Do you work in Beijing at Nike World Headquarters ? How's the rent there ? Good running trails ?
I work for a competitor. I can still recognize what would happen should the aforementioned scenario actually happen. As much as I would like to see the swoosh go away, their pockets are too deep and their marketing machine is running too hot for them to be in any real trouble.
From what I hear, China outsources as many local sales and marketing jobs as possible to Beaverton to give the brand as deep a stakehold as possible in local markets. But I guess the recession has hit China bad too and they had to cut back in Beaverton. That's the tough times we live in now. I hope things get better soon.

Yeah, because cross country is meant to be run in ideal conditions: No rain, snow, mud, ice, wind, or hills.
NXN is not XC ! It's a Nike trade show with a demonstration XC races as an advertisement. Just look at all of the running websites Nike pays to fly in to cover their trade show.

It turns out that the layoffs only save the company $2200/day.
