Caloric restriction has been known for decades to be the only natural proven life extension technique, as long as those low calories are high in nutritive value and are not just filler food. Unfortunately for runners, higher carb intake is necessary to support lots of running. But this is offset somewhat by the fact that regular exercise stimulates GH production and facilitates release. Also, if you can take a 2-hour nap during the day, this will aid in the production of GH. During times of lower mileage and higher intensity - i.e., as the peak of a season approaches - you might also benefit from a slight reduction in carb intake and a bit of a shift to more protein.
I started to fast everyday from 4pm to 8am 2 weeks ago, and all i can say...it works.
I recover better, have more energy, sleep better, my asthma has almost stopped, my long-runs have become much easier at the end while still running the same pace as before.
Great start to becoming anemic.
why should i start becoming anemic?
My iron-intake hasn't changed, may be the opposite because my body has now more chance to fight infections,virus,etc..
tell us more about your training: when do you run, how much, when do you work, when do you eat, etc?
i work from 730am till 6pm, with an hour break in afternoon. i run 5 in the morning (5:30am) and 12-14 at 6:30pm. if i skimp or skip on a meal after my evening run, i always wake up in the middle of the night dying of hunger. on the other hand, i am heavier than i would like to be.
do you/;did you have problems waking up hungry in the middle of the night? if not, why?
I'am studying..., of course it's almost impossible to fast that way for somebody who's working from 7-6pm.
Usually i do an easy jog in the morning then have classes at the University, come home eat lunch and do a second run before 4pm and eat dinner right after, sometimes another class in the evening.
The first 5 days i was also feeling very hungry during the night but now it's not a problem anymore,i sleep better then before, i guess you body hast just to adapt.
You produce more HGH,Melatonin & Serotonin that way, i always get some kind of a Hormon-Kick at about 10-11pm,no joke.I feel much better in general, more vitality, better concentration,..
The only problem is that I have to get in more calories between 8-4pm.
Theo - I'm impressed, you log over 100 miles a week and you work over 50 hours a week (I assume you don't work weekends). Honestly inspiring.
No scholarship limits anymore! (NCAA Track and Field inequality is going to get way worse, right?)
