Recreational runner here. Was doing 25-35 mpw into last fall and fell off the wagon over the winter with only sporadic runs. Feel like I'm starting over from scratch now and wondering if it's a good time to make the switch to more minimalist shoes.
I've been running in Asics Gel Stratus' for the last year. I have size 14 feet and collapse a bit in the arch, but have never gotten comfortable in even minimal support shoes. I had a bout of PF two years ago following a trail marathon where I switched to Inov8's right before the race...and whenever I've switched to running in racing flats in the past I've tried to do too much mileage too quickly as I didn't want to take the time off to adapt/strengthen before upping the mileage in the shoes.
So I'm thinking now is a good time, while my mileage is low, to transition over into running in flats full time and really work on my form as I build up the mileage. My bio-mechanics are pretty straight and I'm a mid-striker mostly already, though fall back on the heels when tired.
Thoughts?
I'm 6'4", 182lbs currently, looking to get back down to where I was last summer at 165-170lbs, run a few early fall half-mar's, trail races, and try my hand at some 10K's.
