I've got a very small and rather painful "stone bruise" on the ball of my right foot. What's the accepted way of working through/with one of these?
Anyone had good and or bad experiences with this issue?

I had one a few months ago that prevented me from running for two days. Best thing you can do is give it an ice bath and let it heal.
I used to get them all the time on the Appalachian trail...rocky shit. They always seemed to feel better the next day after the first mile or so.
try cutting a bruise-sized hole in the insole of the offending foot's shoe (or use an insole from an old shoe). using this modified insole will alleviate some of the pressure on the bruised area.
I have one of these things right now - stepped on a rock (i think) about a week ago. hasn't gotten any worse or better since then, been just running through it. do i need a day off? or is the sign that it hasn't gotten worse a sign that i can keep running through it and eventually it will go away? its more mild discomfort than pain right now - but kinda annoying.
bump
you can run on it if it doesn't hurt too much
Got one today on the Creeper trail, foolishly wearing light road racing shoes on the gravel path (I mis-remembered, thinking it was wood chip). Got it 1-2 miles into the 10 miler and despite the godawful pain for about the next 20 minutes, it got better as I went and I finished the run. Hurts to walk on now, but I think if I wear thicker cushioned shoes for the next couple of days' runs, I'll be fine.
