exact time I called it 357.9
I wouldn't use the word exact.
if true, that's a nice relief for him but something he's long been capable of. i think next time out he'll take another chunk off.
Howd AJ do?

4:00.11 but the story of the meet has to be Gabe Jennings with his 3:58.25. Nice run by him, maybe a comeback year for him?
Huge comeback for Garner. What has it been, 5-6 years since his sub-4? Abbot hasn't been under in a few years either (except DMR's)

my thoughts too. go gabe! no surprise rupp could run a 357 mile. i was shocked when he ran a 149 800m last week. did not think he had that kind of speed/strength. based on that and his 10k time, it is a no brainer that he can probably run a 355 mile. kudos to all in that race. good show, men!
Shows what 62% of letsrun pollsters know, hehe.
I really think Rupp could run this in a time trial now, this was probably one of those pressure runs, I doubt he was too relaxed knowing that the curse was still there and it would only grow if he somehow flopped here.
He'll run a good one outdoors.
Wait why is 3:58 impressive for Jennings? This guy went to the olympics in 1500, 3:58 is nothing special, unless there are some circumstances leading up to this race I don't know about.

Comeback from what?
Rupp's Curses/Barriers/Achievements:
NCAA Champ Curse - Beat it at NCAA Cross
Sub 4 Curse - Today
Sub 1:50 Barrier - Last Week
3K PR - Long over due - This Season - ACR
5K PR - Long over due - This Season - AIR, ACR
Guy has had a helluva past 6 months!
Add that he made the Olympic team on his first attempt (a barrier for many qualified athletes for a number of reasons) and was the top american in the event at the olympics.
Guy is starting to look quite clutch.

totally agree; but, he ran in the olympics, took no break and won x-c nationals and now is diving into indoor track in a big way. even pre took off x-c, directly after the olympics to rest and recharge. how is rupp doing it?
watched the video, galen did not look too smooth, especially over the last 400. probably didn't help that the announcer was saying that Rupp had never broken 4! his body language almost said with a lap to go "will I somehow tie up and miss this!".
jennings actually looked better from about 1200-1570, though he was in a perfect spot sitting behind Rupp the whole time. rupp finished ahead but looked like he was racing a mile on a fairly high mileage week, maybe he was.
abbot must have had a nice last quarter, he seemed way out of it and caught up to them down the stretch. being an 800-1500 guy that's not out of this world be a nice finish.
like someone said, now that rupp has this off his mind he'll pop a good one later. should get in a B heat 1500 in europe and go 3:38 or better. mabye adidas here.

well he did have some down time after the olympics, he only raced 3 cross races, including nationals.
This is a guy that 2 years ago had a full indoor season, full outdoor season with NCAA's and the 27:33 PR, then went on to USA's and worlds, then came back and barely lost NCAA cross to McDougal.
he has been training so intensely for the past 5 years that when he's not racing, he's doing VERY hard workouts and good mileage. he'll probably take a down week or so after NCAA indoors, skip the early season outdoor meets, get a USA qualifier for the 5K at cardinal and then run through the motions of Pac-10's and regionals. No one can push him in conference or the region at 5K or 10K so he can train through those meets and just finish hard over the last 800-1K.
Wait, I'm totally confused. Rupp ran 3:57.86? That's not possible, I read over and over on this site that Rupp simply could not break 4 minutes. I don't get it.
