I think in a few years after the Spence twins become nearly as good, as good, or better than Neeley in their events.. it'll be clear that the Spence family is the best.

One more to come in the Centro Family !
I say the Spence family, more big wins.
I ran against him when he was at Power
Memorial. It was either him or Craig Virgin. There were times set by Cenrto Senior, that I never heard a word about in the future. Amazing times.
Centro ran a 3:57.93 at Seattle tonight.
I agree on the Spence family. Bsides, they are way, way nicer. No cursing from papa Spence and the always gracious Neely. Very much contrast to big Centro's cursing of athletes and the younger acting like he's above everyone. But just another let's run opinion.

And there is Beverly Centrowitz, the mom. She ran 2:08 at Hunter college and is also very nice.[
Never met the Spence's. Have met the Centro family, and they're all excellent people. Sorry if your slow ass friend got their feelings hurt once when they did not do what they were asked to in a running-related scenario, but anyhow, you'd probably do well not to make character assessments based on peripheral, if any, contact with people in narrowly-focused settings. How'd you feel if someone assesed your worth as a human being based on your one cowardly post. I'm sure you'd argure vociferously that you have done more with your life than slander others anonymously.
Definitely the McChesneys. The father (Tom Sr.?) I believe was an All-American for Montana many years ago. Then, of course, there are his four sons, all of whom were all-americans in high school and college (if I recall correctly). The most well known, Billy, held Oregon's 10k record until Rupp broke it, and qualified for the Olympic team in 1980. I believe both he and Tom ran under 9:00 in the two-mile in high school, and both of them and Steven went on to run for U of O in the mid to late '70's. The youngest, Kenny, ran for his father's alma mater, Montana, several years later. I think he was junior national champ in the steeple as a high schooler.
Tragically, both Billy and Tom were killed over the years in automobile accidents. However, I believe that both Kenny and Steven have young children who will hopefully continue the family tradition.

I forgot to mention the mother, who I believe came to running later in life and set some age group records (which the father did too)
I have worked with both Steve and Matt Sr. great guys with two different personalities. One is outspoken while the other is very reserved. The families are top notch.
20 years from now this thread will have an easy answer:
THE GOUCHERS:
Kara- 2:15 marathon
Adam- not much after college, but stil solid
Scott- 12:47 5k
Kristin- 29:30 10k
Don't count your chickens before they've hatched.

what has the spence family done other than neely?
Centrowitz family definitely has to be up there, but WITHOUT A DOUBT, hands down, far and away....Centrowitz Sr. is the biggest dickhead of any of the families mentioned. Haven't realy heard much out of the mouth of Centro Jr., but if the apple didn't fall far from the tree then he's Centrodick Jr.

Not sure who his wife is but if they're being considered in this discussion she was probably very good herself.
The Flanagan's. Not too many families with a former marathon world record holder (mother), world cross participant (father), and american record holder in 5K and 10K (Shalane).
