I think Rupp had the record at 7:49. Great run by Fernandez. 13:30 shape I would assume.

was this the final?
Isn't it an oversized track?
They ran the last 1200 in 3 minutes
Tony Soprano from the prediction thread:
7:47.23, to break Galen's AJR.
He's still eligible, right?
Does Over-Sized count?

Oversized track.
No record.
This kid is a gamer, aside from the injury thing at NCAAs has he had a bad race in the past half year?
Rupp's record is an outdoor record. He ran it on July 31, 2004. This is juuuust a touch better - ha.
Rupp's record was outdoor, I believe. Lincoln and Goucher were in the race...in his journal, he wrote, "Adam took off with about 800 to go and probably ran his last lap in 55 or so. He is very fit right now and will continue to run better as the summer progresses. I stayed with Dan Lincoln until 1 lap to go when I passed him. He passed me back with 200 to go but I closed on him in the last 100." So German's record is legit, regardless of the track size.

NCAA's will be his 2nd real test. Talented yes, gamer to be determined.
There is a truckload of guys around 7:50 right now with Chelenga and Rupp more in the 7:40 range. Fernandez goes with them he may get swallowed up.
24th fastest American Indoors and a Jr.

Footlocker his senior year was kind of a disappointing race.
IN THE PAST HALF YEAR
I don't mean to rain on the parade, but I have some vague recollection, from many years ago, that times on oversized indoor tracks are in a kind of netherworld for record purposes, since they are eligible for neither indoor track nor outdoor track records. Although that may seem bizarre, I can understand how an oversized, banked, and tuned indoor track with no ambient wind could generate times faster than times on an unbanked 400-meter outdoor track. I'm curious if anyone here knows the rule one way or the other.
Was he 7:47.23 just like I predicted?

You were about a half second off. Nice call.
It was a stellar race. GF was leading after the mile for a few laps, then Coe comes up and takes it away. He held GF until the final 50m, to run a 7:58 huge PR. Something like 12 guys 8:00 or better.
yeah about that...why the hell build a 307m track. why not just add another 93m so everyone can leave their calculators home.

Based on the last few weeks, there is a lot more to come for German in the 3k, and especially in the 5k and up.
