Last year was a tremendous disappointment. No doubt and probably he and Razco made mistakes in his training, however I believe Alan trains to be a 3:25, 3:42. What I mean is he takes the extra risks in training to become the greatest. Admittedly, it has back fired on him recently and I admit he is not a great racer.
Recently people have been comparing him to Willis. Willis had a better year last year and it can be argued a better career based solely on the Bronze, but I would ask everyone where is Willis ceiling? Does anyone really think he could win an Olympic gold? Can he really ever run 3:46? I dont think so.
I think if we could watch the training of these two day in and day out, we would quickly learn Webb trains much much harder and so will probably never be the consistent runner Willis may be, but his brilliant performance will always be brilliant.
I want to cheer for the guy looking to be the greatest of all time, not the guy who wants to be consistent and possibly sneak into a bronze medal or WC silver.
Thoughts.
