When I've run in very cold weather I've noticed that my feet and legs feel a little more beat up than usual from the effort. This got me wondering about whether the cold was responsible. It seems that the cushioning of your shoes should be compromised, i.e. hardened, due to colder temperatures. Also, if you run on asphalt the surface should be harder as well. Even trails would be harder when they are frozen. Your muscles might even be tighter in the cold.
I wonder if there have been any studies to examine any of these issues? Someone should make some special shoes that don't lose their cushioning at cold temps (or couse they need to negotiate royalties with me for this great idea). Should you stick to the treadmill below certain temps? Should I just man up and stick to the 'crete?
