How many miles should one typically have on a pair of shoes before wearing them for track/speed workouts. I just purchased a pair of Saucony Tangent 3s and I am wondering how long until I can use them for speed work?

I would think that depends on when your next speed workout is.
I have speed workouts on the track twice a week, but I have my ds trainers still even though they have 400+ miles on them. So I am wondering how many runs do I need to do in the Saucony's before taking them on the track?
Maybe 20 miles or so?
I don't really see why you'd need to wait at all. Wear them once or twice to break them in if you're worried about it but they should be good to go. Shoes these days don't need as much wear-in period.
I thought I heard somewhere that you should do some easy runs in them before taking them to the track?
Shouldn't really make a difference as long as the shoe fits properly.
Depends mainly on type of shoes .
If your feet tolerate racing flats w/o problems , you can jump right ahead .
I tested Spira Stinger and Nike Lunaracer and they are both good for my feet . Catch 22 is that it takes some time to get to know your feet in relation to speed work .
Wearing shoes instead of spikes seems to be right decision .
Many seasoned athletes run speedwork in racing flats .
Put them on for some strides after an easy run or two, just to make sure they don't hurt your feet. Other than that, you should be good to go.
I think Go for it is right. The worst that can happen is you might get a small blister.
