malmo inn. great accommodations. a little far from the start but the price -- in Budweiser units -- could make it well worth any inconvenience.
The Dina is back in the mix! All right, running New York!
Will be drinking Bud Light before the race. After we will celebrate with Bud Tall's....

If Diddy can do it, I can do it...

I use the Cosmopolitan Hotel in Tribeca, 95 W. Broad, slightly out of the way but clean, safe and around $125. You can take a subway from across the street to the library for the free bus.
I think you should go the whole way on the old grass cutter with a bud light in one hand! And they would probably put on the front of Runners World!
Steve,
I just got back in from NYC last night (running in the blizard all weekend)...we stay at ON THE AVE at 77th and Broadway (212) 787 9521 about 3 times a year...we've founf that its a super convenient upper west side location for running, eating, shopping...there's even a Super Runner's Shop (Gary Muhrcke's store) literally around the corner on Amsterdam btw 77th and 76th...typically we are able to get it on expedia.com for about $139 which is really inexpensive for as nice a hotel as this one...this past week we were in at about $235 (high time with X mas shopping etc)...the other hotel that we like is the Shoreham on about 55th between 5th and 6th...hope to see you at Oly Trials Hootie 5K (5th annual??) as you tune up for NYC...by the way, didn't i see where you ran sub 3 somwhere this year??
MF
Thank's Mike,Ran 2:57 on 37 mpw average. Now I'm going to get in shape.Probably can't make the Hootie 5K but I'll be in NYC next November.

Cosmopolitan is a good choice. You're not going to find a lower rate. Besides, I know the neighborhood well. Know a great Italian joint only a block away that no one knows about. You can hang out with Keith Richards and Moby at Fanelli's Bar (no relation to Mike) not far away. The bartender went the full six rounds against Larry Holmes in 1973. Needless to say, there's no trouble there.
actually Malmo, yes we are related...the joint at Prince and Mercer is/was owned by my cousin (or so I am told) and Michael Fanelli (the spirit behind the tavern's last 50 years or so) was just a humongous patron of the arts...fyi
MF
Fanellis are from Riccia,Italy just outside of Campobasso and most of our relatives settled either in NYC or (like 'mi famiglia') in Philly
Nice...But I'm a bit concerned.....I'm not really Itailian.... I'm Scicilian!You know what I mean...O.K.....

That would have to be the pugilistic arts? If you'd been to Fanelli's you'd understand.
rough and tumble as it may be, Fanelli Cafe has always been
a haven for the aspiring painter or writer...just a cool old throwback to a different time...worth the trek when in NYC
MF
Hopefully I'll be out of Fanelli's by midnight saturday. I'm glad NYC isn't one of those 7 A.M. starts!

Fanelli's isn't "rough and tumble". By pugilistic arts, I mean the walls are covered with black and white fight photos, not a hint of art anywhere. In fact, music is explicitly banned.
If you want "throwback havens from a different time" I'd recommend The Old Town Bar near Union Square.
For "artsy throwback havens", Freddy's in Brooklyn.
Malmo,
The long time owner is/was a very well known patron of the arts...nothing that hangs in the bar...he supported many an aspiring artist and re: rough & tumble, well, it certainly ain't no yuppie fern bar...nothin fancy...and, not much has changed in the last 30 or 40 years at least...been around since the late 1800s I do believe

Dina is going dress in black and hang out at the Mercer and listen to bland garage muzak anyway.
