Background:
I'm 16 and have been running 6 days a week for about two years now.I'm self coached.I'm quite good without being outstanding. I want to take the next step up so that I can compete for national medals. I think I'm a ST fibre type because I'm skinny as a twig and can't sprint (or jump) particularly well. How should I adjust my training to maximise my strengths?
I'm training about 45mpw at the moment. I'm taking a week off starting on monday and I want to start doubles when I start training again.
At the moment I do a long tempo or race on saturday, easy runs sunday, tuesday, thursday with interval sessions on monday and wednesday. I take every friday off.
My plan is to incrase my mileage to 70 miles per week by adding 4 mile rus every morning before school and making my long run (sunday) about 14 miles. This would give me something like this:
Sat: AM 4 PM 5 tempo
Sun: PM 14
Mon: AM 4 PM 6
Tue: AM 4 PM 8
Wed: AM 4 PM 8
Thu: Am 4 PM 9
Fri: off
I would do this for 4 weeks and then introduce interval training on Mon and Wed. I have to peak for the beginning of March.(6k xc)
Should I gradually introduce doubles?
Is it too much of a jump in mileage?
I don't have a coach so I'd really appreciate it if some of you could give me some advice.
